Check engine light blinking
Hi bro! ;-)
Bought Forza 1 year ago. Love that!
2 month ago change the oil....
On official service center. (but... Thai service center... :-( )
Later on "Check engine" light blinking.
Visit service center 3 times.
Change the rear tire.... :-) add braking fluid...
But.... "Check engine" light still blinking!
I begin to think that Thai mechanics had 2 arms... both - left....
Noticed that blinking like 5 long&4 short in serial
Any ideas?

I'm sure one of the more knowledgeable people here will be glad to help you, especially after they understand that not everyone is American, and that speaking multiple languages is far more common outside the US, than it is inside, especially in Asian nations.
Perhaps that "code" might be listed in a current service manual?

I found something to put here.

Re: Check engine light blinking
Apologies if I am stating the obvious...but..
You will have checked the engine oil level is correct? The mechanic did put the correct amount in when servicing?
It is the engine light and not the HISS indicator light that is blinking?
I have looked through the full service manual copy I have and cannot see any reference other than to the level of engine oil.
hope you get more informed responses from others.

I'll try to visit service station on Monday... but... I'm beginning to be afraid of these guys :-) That will be a 4th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! visit!!!!dergav wrote:Apologies if I am stating the obvious...but.. - Don't worry! Forget it!

I asked another mechanic guy (just in the small street service point) Asia.... you know... to see what's up... he unscrewed a cap.... put a screw driver in it. take it out... and sad - oil level is Ok. But for find out what's going on - he needs connect a computer/ and only official service center had it.

It's the top one. With engine logo on it. And definitely that's 5 long&4short blink series.

Re: Check engine light blinking
I'm going to shoot a couple of cell phone pictures to post here, but before I do, here's a little glossary to the terms the Service Manual uses:GolDen wrote: Noticed that blinking like 5 long&4 short in serial
Any ideas?
MCS = Motorcycle Communication System; I think this is the machine one plugs into the scooter to read the fault codes.
DTC = Diagnostic Trouble Code; this is what the bike thinks is wrong with itself
ECM = (I think we all know this one, but what the heck) Engine Control Module; the computer that keeps everything running and looks for trouble
MIL = Malfunction Indicator Lamp; the Check Engine light
On page 4-5 of the Service Manual, I find a cryptic description of the blink codes, and on 4-9 I find a list of the blink codes. If I'm reading everything correctly, it looks like you have trouble with your bank angle sensor and/or the voltage coming to it, so if you drop the bike while it's running, the engine won't cut off.
Pictures coming in a few minutes.
Current ride: 2014 Forza bought new in mid-2015; still only 18K on the odo
Traded in: 2003 GL1800 with 152K and several IBA rides on the clock
6 other previous bikes
nearly 3/4 million miles logged
now just commuting instead of touring

I seem to remember a factory recall about the bank angle sensor.

Re: Check engine light blinking
OK, here are inadequate cell phone pictures of the relevant pages from the 2014-2015 Service Manual
First, a list of the codes.
Then, the description of system the bike uses to report trouble.
(I uploaded those pictures in a different order, but this is the order the board want us to have them in.)

Re: Check engine light blinking
So looking at the codes it's showing a fault with the bank angle sensor then.

Glad to be of help.
And stunned to be able to help people on other continents. I think that lists like this one may be an incarnation of the best of the internet.

Re: Check engine light blinking
Hm.... today take the forza back from service center.
3 hours later "check engine" blinking againe.
Strange. But mechanic have same logic explanation.
They told me, that when they tried to start motobike engine few times.... battery was die.
That why they put the battery for charging.
While it's charge, they check the sensor's cable connection... everything is Ok.
According to their theory the sensor is ok, cause if it's broken, I can't start the forza at all.
There idea about battery fault actually had a sense, cause from the beginning, i noticed that indicator start blinking ONLY FOR COLD ENGINE and mainly when i slowly drive down from the hill.
After night... battery a little bit discharged with cold start.... head lamps.... so.... looks logically.
Now.... 2 choices.
1. Battery is dead.
2. Somthing wrong with electric generator and chargeing the battery.
What is a simplest way to check it up?
Connect the voltmeter and looking within daily trips?
Change the battery?

Re: Check engine light blinking
Have the battery tested with a proper battery tester and not a voltmeter.

GolDen:
I believe your mechanic might still be a little off the mark?
he thinks your battery is low and that a failed bank angle sensor would prevent the bike from starting, but the diagnostic flow chart says otherwise.....
it says the bike will still run normally even if this sensor gets out of spec voltage - too high or too low - but the tip over automatic shutdown feature of the bank angle sensor will fail to function...
the bike will continue to run, even laying on it's side
have them test that!

Re: Check engine light blinking
Good idea.... btw.
But.... I'he lost the filling that they can repair that.
I was there 4 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! times....
1st time 4$ for computers connections.
2nd time they change something for 45$ (I cant understand what, cause invoice was in Thai) -Explanation - brake distribution system -Ok! useful thing.
3rd time - nothing + change the rear tire (really need to change) - 80$
4th time - zero + charging the battery
What do you think about 5th time? re-paint the bike? ;-)
