Hi, anyone with an idea of the tread depth of a new tyre? I have Michelin City Grips on my new model PCX. Trying to gauge how much wear has taken place. The wear markers are no where near to showing,but the tread depth is between 4-5 mm after 1700 miles. Cars are 6-8 mm when new,can’t find anything on the web regarding scooter tyres.

Varies frome one make/model of tyre to another.
A rear Citygrip on a PCX should be good for at least 10,000 miles

I just installed Michelin City Grips on my PCX and only have about 100 miles on them so far. Tires here in the US are typically measured in 32nds of an inch (0.03125" or 0,8mm). My rear CG has 6/32" or about 4.8mm, and the front has 5/32". Car tires here often have 10/32"-11/32" for All Season tires and 12/32"-13/32" for winter snow tires. I use a tread depth gauge like the one in this picture:

I really wouldn't worry about your tires for quite some time. City Grips hold the road well and last much longer than some of the other brands on the market. I think Michelin got it right when they developed the City Grip tire.

I have about 4,800 miles on my Pirelli Diablos. The rear tire is flawless. Hardly shows wear. I am more than confident it can last 10k to 12k miles. This is for the Forza 300. My experience has been very different than some which say its a short tread life tire.

They did. Only caveat is that sometimes OEM tyres of a specific brand and type can be different to those supplied to the general market.

Can't imagine it being the case here though.
