We made it through

Post by Limey »

Haven't been able to get online until our internet and cable came back up only a half hour ago. Hurricane Michael decided to visit us and this area last week, and from here to about 60 miles of us is like a war zone. Fortunately the storm jigged 5 miles east at the last minute and our neighborhood was spared the direct hit we expected. We have roof damage and trees, fences signs and buildings down everywhere - the poor folks across the bridge from us have been devastated. Not much of Panama City left without major damage. Mexico Beach took a direct hit and to think that the beachfront restaurant that we had lunch in a few weeks ago was wiped out, along with most of the other homes there. Multiple counties here are under dusk to dawn curfews and looters have been out a lot. Fortunately our power and gas came back on, on Friday, although we will have to boil water for the next few weeks. We still have no cell service and drove 20 miles ( took us 4 hours) this morning to get a signal so that we could let friends know that we are surviving. We are still in shock at seeing the damage.

We have been using our PCXs to get around as it is easier to get through to places - plus we use less gas and don't have to join the huge lines at those gas stations that survived!

Considering all of that damage it is a wonder that you were able to get internet at all. It is good to know that you survived.

We heard from a friend of ours down there who decided that her mobile home could handle it. Really!?? Who in their right mind decides to ride out a category 4 hurricane in a TRAILER!!!??

Glad you weren't one of those statistics.

We really lucked out. We had left for Colorado the previous week to go and get our boat. We were on our way back when it hit and we were worried sick. Got back two days after the event - we were stunned.....

Neighbors got together and put up all our hurricane shutters. We owe them big time!

Thanks for letting us know you are OK. :D

I live less than a mile from Long Island Sound and over the years I've seen some significant damage in the area and plenty of downed trees and limbs in my yard but nothing like what you folks just endured in the Florida panhandle. Wow. . .it's like a WWII scene.

The longest I ever had to go without power, which was caused by Storm Sandy, was 5 days. Hang in there. . .. :geek:
