Honda PCX engine lost power and maximum speed reduction

Post by Label_28 »

Hi all.
I am happy owner of PCX 150 2016 (with remote key). On odometer now 65000 km and I noticed couple of problems:

- When I am driving in rain, my engine lost power when reached 80 km per hour the speed fall down to 60km per hour (feel like engine lost power). It happens only in heacy rain.

- couple days ago when I was driving at speed 90 km per hour my engine unexpectedly shut down and I couldn't start it again immediately. Can start it and drive only after 5 minutes. It was first time my engine unexpectedly shut down on highway when I was driving...

- when I just bought motorcycle maximum speed was 115 km per hour. But it continuously reduced to 90 km per hour after 2 years and 65000km

What does cause this problems? Any variants?

too many variables here..

When was the last time you had the maintenance check up? Should be at least around every 6000 kms.

Overheating problem? Coolant level still okay?

Reduced top speed? when did you last changed your belt? roller weights? clutch shoes?

When did you last check your valve clearance?

At half of your mileage, i almost did change all of the above mentioned.

I did all maintenance follow up service book at official Honda center. My Location is Thailand
Belt, oil was changed around 61000 km.
roller weights and clutch shoes never changed before.
I just got answer from Honda shop that it is problem with motor compression (they need disassemble it to change damaged parts inside). And for fix problem with maximum speed need replace clutch kit.

Ah, your'e in Thailand (too). Should be easy to fix around here..
Rollers should be very worn at 61k too, as well as the clutch shoes and bell..
might need some head works for the compression (piston, cylinder head, or valves)
keep us updated..

In shop told me for fix compression and change clutch kit around 4000-5000 baht
How about lost power in rain, when speed reached 80 km per hour engine lost power and speed fall down to 60, but in dry weather without rain can drive 90 km per hour without any problems. What is a reason?

The fact that it can only run 90kph tops indicates some problem already. It mightbe related, I'm guessing once the compression fixed the same problem wont exist as well.

Honestly though, sound like a grounding problem. but i suggest fix each of them one by one. to see if the problen still persist after the first repair.

Maximum speed reduced continuously after 1 year it became around 105 km per hour now reduced to 90 after second year.
But problem with losing engine power in rain after reach speed 80 km per hour appear couple months ago.

i can only think of the electrical grounding problem during rain that can cause that..

mine is a little more than 2 years old too, almost at 30,000 kms odo, no issue with my top speed.

mention it to the Honda guy since it's already in the garage..

Around 115kph to 117kph too. That's Based on my speedo reading. I'm only 65 kgs.

It remains the same since new. Except when I tried a diff variator, but that's another story.

I have been riding already 65000km without any issues. And service follow service book haha. But yeah filter I asked to change already even it is not time to change it if follow up service book.
Shop also advised me to change this parts in engine, coz engine is quite noisy now:
My mechanic just finished checking your bike. Basically, you have to change the parts according to the pictures (prices are in the picture exclude the wage which is 200 baht)

The problem about loud noise is from bearing radial and crankshaft. If you want to fix the ploblem, you have to change:
- bearing radial 253 baht
- crankshaft comp 3188 baht
- gasket cylinder head 67 baht
- gasket cylinder 20 baht
-2 bottles of engine oil 218 baht (109 baht per 1 bottle)
- wage 900 baht

Since your bike has been used nearly 60,000 kms, my mechanic suggest you to extract smoking jacket if you have never done it before. The parts that needed to change in this process are:
- piston 358 baht
- ring set piston 185 baht
- extract smoking jacket wage 150 baht

Please let me know which parts you would like to change, so I will tell my mechanic to start repairing your bike.

To think that he is servicing it regularly, I wonder why the worn rollers and plates haven't been changed earlier. And that air filter oh my, did you ride in the flood?

Go for all the proposed repairs, quoted prices are not that bad..

Yeah, that's filter after flooding that's why I asked change 1000 km before.
About rollers nobody didn't tell me in motorcycle shop change it before. It affected only on maximum speed not too much critical for riding.
Yeah I asked them change all parts from list

That's awesome. A long drive like that will immediately warrant a change oil, drive parts check up and coolant level check.
