My First Oil Change

I purchased my pcx with 1332 miles. The guy I bought it from didn’t changed the oil and didn’t know if the original owner ever did.
I changed the oil and replaced the crush washer today at 1420 miles. There wasn’t much in the oil filter screen so I suspect the oil has been changed before.
This scoot really sips gas (I think even better than my 110cc Elite @ 88-92 mpg avg)! I still have two ticks on my gauge before I fill it up with premium fuel.

Why the premium fuel? Is that what the owners manual recommends?

Good question, I don't believe the manual says that. It's what a few of my buddies put in their scooters, so that's what I put in my last scooter. I guess it's because I believed it can only improve performance without harming your scoot. Plus for only about $0.20 more per gallon it's reasonable. It's called premium fuel, it's gotta be better right? Maybe it has electrolytes, it's what scoots need.

premium is not Better for the pcx, use what the manual tells you to use: regular unleaded....

Thanks Jge64,
My 2016 Owners Manual states:
Pg 13: It says to use recommended octane number (Lower octane gas will result in decreased engine performance), don't use fuels containing a high concentration of alcohol.
Pg 35: Unleaded gas only, pump octane number 86 or Higher.
Pg 106: Some fuels are blended with alcohol or an ether compound to help reduce emissions...
Make sure it's unleaded and meets the Minimum (86 octane) rating and blend requirement.
Ethanol (ethyl alcohol) aka Gasohol up to 10%.
Methanol (methyl alcohol) up to 5%.
It appears that if the premium fuel doesn't contain more than the above alcohol blends, it should be fine. I didn't even think about this too hard. I just stayed away from AMPM cheap gas and used premium. What do others use?

I use 89. I've read that premium (Hi test) has less methanol, and 89 is a mix of 87 & hi test. So that's what I do, it can't hurt. Higher octane can't harm an engine, just costs more & isn't necessary.

I always used 87 octane regular (with ethanol) in mine and never had a problem. I also added Star-Tron fuel additive once in a while. I commonly got 110+ MPG.

Also if you found "lint-like fuzz" debris in your oil screen then I'm thinking it may have been the first time that was pulled for cleaning. Others, including myself, have found that on the first oil change.

That said then it's possible that just the oil was previously changed.

The scheduled oil replacement for the final drive is once every two years (to the best of my recollection) but I did my first one at around 1000 miles. 8)

Enjoy the miles! :D

Hi

I am from Malaysia and bought my brand new PCX more than a month ago.

The PCX was called in for her first service by the authorised dealer after a month though it has only done 426 km. Supposedly, PCX would undergo first service after 1,000 km. I went anyway because many PCX users said the first service should be carried out after 1 month.

I went with Honda Malaysia engine oil for the PCX, which was manufactured by Petronas. Many said it is of mineral type and can last up to 2,000 km. I went with it because it is made for Honda Malaysia by Petronas, and because it is cheap. RM25 is about GBP6.

The dealer told me that the CVT oil needed to be replaced and I went for Thailand's Honda final gear oil which costed me RM10 or about GBP1.80.

Labour is free for this service.

Before the service, my PCX was averaging 47.3km/l, and I think my average speed was 75km/h. Will monitor the fuel consumption after the service.

Here are some photos.

Throwing my hat in here:
Use fuel labeled "Top Tier".
Google the list of Top Tier fuels.
I use nothing else in all our engines. Costs not 1cent more.
Why not, eh?

I had Suzuki Address 110 before PCX. Whenever I used regular unleaded my engine light (MIL) was coming on. Premium sorted out the issue. I assume there is some benefit for the bike.

What crush washer?
PCX uses an a soft alloy flat washer, to be replaced at oil change, I have a couple of these 'in stock' so I'm never caught with-out 1, how-ever you can 'anneal' the old one by coating it in candle wax and putting it in a flame, until the was burns black, but be careful as it will be near melting point for the washer.
While you are ordering a couple also order a couple of exhaust washer, they are copper CRUSH washers and will need replacing when you take your exhaust off, like for changing your tyre, puncture etc.

there are also fuel additives you can buy that will improve performance i always put a little iso heet in with the gas to keep condensation out of the fuel

I have never changed the oil sump plug washer for a car, a bike or a scooter in 40 years, and have never had one leak. Just use the old one, it will be OK.

I've used the original oil sump washer many times too - not a single problem, although I may order some exhaust washers - what size are they? No point using the best fuel for the PCX, just make sure to use un-leaded of the correct or minimum rating. Here in the UK I've used Asda unleaded (cheapest fuel around) for best part of 5 years and have great mpg.
