Hey guys & girls,


I have been doing a lot of research on scooters lately on the PCX 125 and did my CBT yesterday on a manual/geared 2008 Honda CG motorbike and "passed" but realised gears weren't for me..

I am very interested in the Honda PCX 125cc as my first ever scooter but know there are scooters such as the PS125, SH125 etc.. and wanted to know if the PCX 125 for every day commuting and rides when im bored would be a good option to go for? - what the benefits are.


Also, are there any mod's etc i could do to increase the speed/performance?

Of all the scooters we have featured in here I quickly go down a list when I see a new one posted.

1. is it a Honda... if not move on
2. is it a step through... don't like em
3. are the wheels at least 14"... anything less is a pot hole hazard in Chicago town
4. hows the mpg
5. does it have a dedicated forum following
6. good luck with seating position... most will suck for long rides

yes performance parts and kits are available, do your research here and you will find the truth about each one.

And finally what else looks this good... strike the pose

I would suspect that it will be more than sufficient if you are not doing motorway riding.

That's the million dollar question.
They can be tweaked reasonably cheaply by changing the pulley rollers but don't expect miracles. There are loads of threads in the performance section so that's worth a look.

Im just looking for a little 'something' to give it an extra kick really.. but MORE than happy with the standard fittings - just viewing my options if i do decide to adjust slightly.

I just saw the PCX in person - a Deliveroo driver was driving one and i quickly ran out to him (while at work) and asked a few questions and he said all the right things to convince me even more into buying one!

PCX is hard not to love.

The only serious mod I would recommend is: Swap the stock horn for a Stebel Nautilus air horn--or an air horn of your preferred make. The stock horn is simply not heard by drivers, or heard and either ignored or laughed at. I tried Dr. Pulley sliders but they did nothing for me. I have been advised that I used sliders of the wrong dimension, so, if you can get the proper part # from someone here--I think Chicaboo has the info you would need-- you might increase the top end somewhat a sliders mod.

If you are looking for more off the line performance and have the same top end, do a Dr. Pulley 13 G slider. It's 25-30 bucks, and the DIY section will show you how to put them. In. It makes a big difference. If you want more than that, search the performance section to replace the variator and the weights to get more Off the line and top end. I think you'll be very satisfied to start with just changing up the weights.

I changed the weights, ran it for a year, and then recently did the whole variator and weight change. Looking back on it, the slider change probably would've been enough, because I don't care about top end. Mine is the neighborhood /around town scooter. In my opinion, the PCX is just too small to do a lot of interstate work.

I'll try them and see if i notice any difference and then take it further. In regards to an exhaust, any alternatives you would recommend?

It says Yamaha but they are the same size.
The shop is in Thailand but the postage is reasonably quick.

Yep, LIGHTER sliders/rollers DO give you more top speed in two ways:
1. The trapezoidal slider shape pushes further on the pulley giving you a meager ~3kph extra on the centre stand. Not appreciable on the road...
2. This is the big one - it you're a larger rider, the stock engine RPMs just aren't high enough to push you through the air. The extra engine RPMs from lighter sliders and rollers puts you in the power band to go faster.

For me, this translated from topping out at 95kph to hitting 115kph reliably. Even 120kph tucked, down slight hills.
My greatest acceleration is with 11g sliders. My best fuel economy is with 14g rollers and Daytona variator.
I've yet to spend any time on the scoot with the 13g sliders, so I can't say how they are yet.

The speeds your getting may not translate though because you have a 150cc if I'm correct but UK bikes are 125cc.

Yeah, I have a little more oomph with a 150, but I would expect the physics of it all to be roughly the same.
