New PCX150 owner! Shutter key wearing down on second day?

Hi guys! Been lurking here for a few months while researching which scooter I wanted to get as my first. Appreciate all the helpful discussion here, and I'm absolutely in love with my PCX! - though it's only been two days.

And that's part of my question: is it normal for the shutter key to be showing significant signs of wear after only 2 days of use? I'll admit I attempted to use the key in the wrong direction on my first try, but other than that I haven't had any issue using the key to unlock the ignition switch. Just noticed the hexagonal shaped plastic is all warped and scraped up already. Normal? If this kind of wear continues will it stop working? :?

What has been you guys' experience with the durability of the shutter key?

Thanks in advance, glad to be here!

certainly not...
WD-40 the shutter, it looks like way too much friction is causing unnecessary resistance. Practice unloading any pressure from the steering column when unlocking your ignition. If it won't move stop forcing it until you resolve the (WHY). I don't use mine much but it does work with minimal effort to unlock when i do.

You are not the first to have a tight shutter in here, there was another.

Looks like I'll be grabbing a can of WD-40 today... not really sure how I don't already have one at my apartment. Thanks for the fast response!

I don't remember the outcome of the last post on this. Maybe wait for someone to dig it out and get a second opinion. I wouldn't bath it in oil just yet there might be cleaner way.

Just don't grab, it's a very rude thing to do.

Pick one up and just buy it.

Before you know it you'll be pulling the trigger on an awesome wd40 purchase with your baseball cap on backwards.

Haha, its been turning without issue since I posted this. Perhaps it just need to break itself in a bit. Still sucks what it's done to my key cosmetically, but not a big deal. I plan on posting my new user PCX photos soon! (I read that's encouraged)

Thanks again guys!

Keep the key separate from other keys, don't have stuff rattling and jangling against it as you ride along, and don't put it in your pocket with other metal objects. ;)

How do you keep track of your PCX key if you dont have it on your keychain with the rest? I imagine I'd lose a loose key pretty quickly. Guess I could get a little hook to hang it on separate in the house...

My scooter key has a leather tag keyring attached, nothing else
When I had a PCX I always inserted the key so that the shutter release portion faced up and the leather fob hung down meaning the keyring did not contact the shutter release section.
When I get off the scooter the key gets secured in the left pocket of my riding jacket and only comes out when its time to ride again.

I just am careful and remember where I've placed it.

I try not to use the shutter because honestly, if someone wants it they're just going to throw it in their truck. :D
