SERIOUSLY!! You Scratched My Truck!

Post by WhiteNoise »

o_O :o :x
Some may remember my thread about my Ridgeline's Michelin Latitude Tire tale of woe. If not, no biggie, the four of them are gone now. They've been replaced (gosh that sounds heartbreaking, )

Anywho, I'm rolling on Cooper Discoverer A/T3's now. White lettering on one side, flip side Black wall.
For the whatever reason, I chose White Letter side out, but I was unsure and the store mgr. knew it. So he quickly said, if you don't like it that way, we'll turn them around, & rebalance them free of charge. I said Cool! Off I went. Got home and scrubbed all the new "blue" stuff off the lettering....

That! Took a bit of elbow. What a p.i.t.a. The lettering is so thin. Yes, I know about sprays you can apply and rinse off with minimal brushing involved. These are New tires. Why did I work so hard? Okay, I did, so what!
YES!! Fellow peeps, I remembered to check each tires born date...1315 (13th week of year 2015. That brings me to the third week of March 2015. Not bad, this is September after all).

(I must post this now before I lose it. I shall return with more tire saga. Not a happy ending. Well, not YET!)

Umm..where was I?

Okay, so I forgot to mention that I also paid for additional coverage on the tires (dumb of me because I never get suckered into extra coverage. Age must have something to do with that decision! Punctures, flats, etc. This coverage cost $84.00 (4 of them for as long as I own them). Not transferable < That sucks (scusi)
Water under the bridge now, I own it. So I pay my bill (plastic), get my receipt, wheel key and off I go.

At home I had the truck rest several hours before I checked tire pressure (I asked them to set them at 32psi). They were now cool and read 36/37psi. This is so typical of shops, you tell them and it gets ignored. Why is that? I reset them to 32psi. I get back inside and review my receipt. I notice red lettering at the bottom that says, "Please return to Mavis immediately after 25 miles of your service so that we can check and re-torque your lug nuts/bolts." That's a new one to me. Ya'll ever heard of that? Kinda like saying, "you better get back here in a few miles cause our guys are careless, hungover and they might not have torqued your tires properly." Get my drift? Odd note to post at the bottom.

White Lettering is just NOT cutting it for me :|

A couple of days of ownership and I had been thinking about our winter that seems to arrive sooner and sooner each year. I gave thought to the snow salt dirt sand and filth that would dirty my new White Letters and how much care they would need. Oh no! This will never work, what was I thinking?!!
Back to shop I went to see manager Kevin who sold me the tires. "I'm back to get my tires turned around to the Blackwall side." (that would include 4 wheels re-balanced at no charge as per Kevin).
"No problem Kevin said, give me the keys." He then asked if I'm liking the Cooper's and I said, "Yes so far so good. Not that noisy, grip is very good, stop is solid and they ride nice." He smiled.

Now I'm in the waiting room where walls with large glass panels come between the mechanic and my eyes. I watch as closely as I can, never staring. It's late in the day, & my truck is the last vehicle serviced by the tech assigned to it. He appears to be careful with his tools (impact wrench or...is it driver? Haha! Such a puzzlement!) Anywho, each tire comes off its rim, gets turned around, filled with air then balanced. All four are done, the mechanic hands my wheel key to one of the Desk/Salesman (Kevin in lot around side of building). The salesman then hands me all of my keys (no receipt).
Now I notice my mechanic grabbing his belongings. He walks out and leaves for the day. Hmm, I guess he had an appt somewhere? Whatever, I just saw that, that's all.
But wait! It just might matter....

Sounds gross, really.

I know it's been a rather long intermission, sorry (life's plum crazy). Before I drive back into my "true story" later, let me show you my tyre (< spelling for 2yous :D ) turn-around pic: The Dark Side :P

Do you Like it Better than the Letter side? Hmm, I think I do.

Look closer Can you see the brownish coloring? Zoom in! They just might need a scrubbing on this side too? When all 4 got turned around I noticed that immediately. Why brownish I asked? Of course the salesman thought the coloring was fine even though he agreed they were brown-ish. He did a double check on the born dates. Ha! Those dates didn't change you silly salesman!
Guess I'll get back to scrubbing again

What was the title of this thread again?? :x

Oh ferk another opportunity for mumbojumbo and "experts". Tyres also go brown due to spent brake pad dust.

Just use your tyres as tyres.

Ohhh....there's sooo much more to this boring angry true story of mine. Who knew it would get worse as days went by. Can you trust anyone to do a job right? And! To fix the damage that they themselves did in the process of repairing the damage you brought it in for?
OMGosh, ...."I'm Amazed That Men Like You Can Be So Shallow, Thick and Slow" (and the play/movie is?)
....."I Shoulda Known Better" than to trust my old Friend's Body Shop. But...wouldn't you?

So, you've noticed.
I've not gotten to the meat of this saga yet! I was pissed before, and even more so now. I promise to finish what I started, but Not Yet. Oh so disappointed. Let me chill awhile. You know I'm particular I truly am, but right is right. Make it Right Please!

General rule at most tire shops is to retorque after 100 miles. A few years ago, one lub was loose at 100.
