Lol geez. Goes to show that two wheelers really are invisible on the road.
Kinda similar-ish... "Oh I hit something... let's give it more gas."

In what way is the turn "illegal"?

Re: Lorry driver almost kills a biker doing a blind illegal
The lorry driver should slow down and look before turning in - he didn't do that (he turned and kept going and ran someone over and it seems could not see (therefore should stop and look properly) where he was going), he is supposed to do the move without turning onto on-coming traffic on the wrong side of the road - etc. But it seems like many of the comments on youtube, they support the a-hole lorry driver and find fault with the rider!

Biker should have slowed down!, also what was stopping him moving to the right, it seems as if he saw the trucks angle of entry to the road he was on, and just sat there dumbfounded until the inevitable occurred!

I didn't realise you could get a truck licence in the UK if you legally blind, as well as stupid??

I don't drive in the UK, so I don't know your rules of the road. However, it seems to me that if that driver could not see all of the oncoming traffic, he should not have turned onto that street from that direction. He should have gone past there, turned around, and come back from the other direction. Otherwise, there was no way that he could have gotten through that turn without being on the wrong side, with his view being completely blocked.

Re: Lorry driver almost kills a biker doing a blind illegal
Cruising up to the junction the bike clearly could see the truck, he could see the truck turning, he RODE onwards, he had plenty of time to make a move, or really slow down. I know if his insurance see this footage, they will say the same. The truck was indicating his turn, while the driver looked right, as he approached the junction, he did NOT check his forward approach was clear before he begun to check behind the truck going from the movement of his head to the right, when he centres, the oh shit moment begins.JohnL wrote:You are kidding aren't you?DrewJW wrote:Biker should have slowed down!, also what was stopping him moving to the right, it seems as if he saw the trucks angle of entry to the road he was on, and just sat there dumbfounded until the inevitable occurred!![]()

Might have been avoided if the rider travelled at an appropriate speed in a built up area and didn't take a long look at the girl on his right just before the accident.

Of course I do, I'm a biker. I'm talking about drivers who are oblivious to us.you you wrote:The're not invisible, I see quite a few everyday, don't you see any?

If you look at that video slower you will see that the biker stopped quite a distance back. The camera moves with his helmet, so he looked to his right to check the round about behind the truck. Then when he turned his head back to front and center he realized that the truck was turning onto his street and was taking the whole street up doing it. He had no place to go. He started yelling at the driver then but to no avail. The driver was oblivious to what was in front of him because he was watching his mirrors. I can't tell if that is a one way street but it doesn't matter. It looks like the truck is on the wrong side. If a small car had been there instead of the bike, the same thing would have happened.

Re: Lorry driver almost kills a biker doing a blind illegal
Its not a one way street. the truck is ok to turn in and is also ok to use both sides of the road to do so.
At the time when the truck makes the decision and commits to turn in the bike is quite some distance back.
The bike should have stopped well short, but through a combination of inattention and failure to anticipate the hazard he ploughed on regardless puting himself in a dangerous position.
When he did eventually realise things were going wrong he took entirely the wrong action, he should have got the bike up onto the pavement (sidewalk) out of harms way sharpish instead of feeezing on the spot and shouting in a panic.
Notwithstanding all of the above, the collision happened on the wrong side of the road and the lorry hit a stationary vehicle so the lorry is totally at fault.
As for avoidability, most of that rests with the biker.
It is far easier for bikes to avoid lorries than the other way around.
No sympathy for the biker on this one I'm afraid.

Re: Lorry driver almost kills a biker doing a blind illegal
You do have a point, in many places in the UK corners setup for trucks have the double white stop line for vehicles far back, this is to give room. However I feel given his looking right as the truck was turning into the road, this bikers in for one hell of a fight with the insurance over who is to blame.Mel46 wrote:If you look at that video slower you will see that the biker stopped quite a distance back. Maybe the laws are different here in Oz, but if you run into a stationary object you are in the wrong. The bike was not moving when it was hit, and it was on the correct side of the road.

Re: Lorry driver almost kills a biker doing a blind illegal
The biker was an idiot for staying where he did - he should of moved away soon after seeing the danger approaching, but some of the delay must be shock factor of what was happening. Still, the HGV driver should never have an HGV licence again - he was not looking where he was going or who was on the road else he would have stopped. Otherwise it's attempted manslughter.

What a bell end. Too fast, looking at the girls and not the traffic again. Really shouldn't have a bike.
