Installing An Avatar

Post by jblye »

If any of you are interested, I found a simple way to get any picture
set up as an avatar on your postings. This site requires that the
avatar be between 100 and 120 pixels wide and high.....otherwise, it gets
rejected.
Of course....being a hillbilly....I might just be the last one to figure out
how to do it, and all of you figured out how to do it long ago.
But....if anyone wants to know how, let me know, and I'll post the very
simple way to downsize the picture to avatar size. Then, you can just
follow the simple instructions that this web site provides for inserting
the avatar on your Profile page. The trick is in adjusting your picture
down to the right size for avatar use.

I had trouble doing it. I had to send my avatar off to my brother to size it. My iMac iPhoto let me make changes but they were all too big for this site. Go ahead and post some instructions for re-sizings. I don't have a separate photo editing program. Just iPhoto and the few edits it allows.

Just plop it in Paint.Net if you have Windows and resize it. It is free.

Here's how I did it using my Mac's iPhoto program (would probably work with other types of computers, but the terms / names might be
different). I started out with a photo which was 320 pixels wide x 240 pixels high. The avatar insertion on this PCX site requires that the photo be
between 100 to 120 pixels wide and between 100 to 120 pixels high (in other words, a small square box).

1) Select your photo from your photo library, click on it to put it in your iPhoto Window to view it at full size.

2) Click on "Edit" and crop the photo (if necessary) to make it a square shape.

3) Select, pull down "File", then "Export", the click on "Size".

4) Choose "Width" and "Custom", then specify the photo width (pixels) that you want to use (in this case, I set in 110 pixels width).

5) Export new (smaller) photo (e.g., to an iPhoto album) for use as needed.

Now, you can just go into the profile / avatar setup on this PCX site, select the small picture that you just created, and submit it.

Worked for me !!
