X-MAX 400 vs Xciting 400i

Post by beos59 »

What are your opinions about these two new 400cc scooters from Yamaha and Kymco:

http://www.yamaha-motor.eu/uk/products/ ... ax400.aspx

http://www.kymco.com/product/category/S ... 00i/sp.asp

Features?
Style?
Ride ability?
Quality?
Cost of ownership?

I think the Kymco has an upperhand on features and ride ability (stronger motor, larger rear wheel) but I'm not so sure about the others. Both are attractive though...

Both have made good names for themselves, but finding both service places and parts for Kymco has been a problem. That was another reason I purchased a Burgman 400.
Currently own:
Red 2013 Honda PCX150

Givi tall windshield & tailbox - Lots of extra lights
Custom seat from Thailand - Bad Boy Airhorn
Takegawa Lowering Shocks - Michelin City Grip Tires
Headlight assy upgraded to LEDs w/HS5 main bulbs
NCY variator, drive face, and rollers

Kymco has very small internal storage for a 400 class maxi.
Scooter Station did a comparison video and review of them and the X10 350

Yes I've seen these and it seem like they put the x-max slightly ahead of the xciting based on overall characteristics, but consider the xciting as a "sportier" scoot... Also haven't seen the swedish agent marketing the xciting yet so I would like to know more about the x-max but there is little actual owner feedback available it seems. It is new for this season? One of the bigger drawbacks seems to be the ground clearance and the risk for center stand to grind against the ground if leaning in curves. Also the seat comfort seems to get some bashing.

Both are really attractive for the price, maybe something to dream about for next season... :)
