with out a conventional starter it is so quiet when the PCX starts, it starts like a Hybrid.

This same "Love" can be extremely aggravating if/when it doesn't start also...at least with an actual starter it can be "cranked over"..... ;)

The ACG starter in the PCX is far less likely to fail than a conventional one. (no moving parts)

I was wondering about that. How the heck DOES it start?

The alternator turns the engine over.

I'm assuming then that, should it fail to turn over, jumping the battery is the only way to get going again? One can push-start an automatic (or you used to be able to anyway), but you have to get 'er going scary fast for it to work.

You can't push start an auto scooter because of the way the centrifugal clutch works.
