Just picked up a damaged 2013..introduction

Post by chucktuna »

Hope to learn a bit from you guys here, but I just picked up a used 2013 that had a bit of damage.
Honestly, I got it for a drivetrain swap, but when I picked it up, its a lot better shape than I thought, so I'm having second thoughts about tearing it apart.
Here's a few shots of it:

Looks ok to me. A couple of panels and a bit of paint would sort that nicely

If you have a service manual you could pull the plastic off yourself. Look up parts at places like Partzilla.com or some other store that you might find a link to on this forum. Babbitt's is also a good parts site. I think most of the parts for a 125 will fit a 150, but if you aren't sure then just go with which one you have. Doing the work yourself not only make you very familiar with this scooter but it shouldn't cost you much to fix it as good as new.

Will need a service manual no matter what its fate.
I'm looking for an original OEM version.Any good sources?

I checked out this thread and saved a few of the pages that were scanned and posted:

As far as the scoot itself goes, I'll get it fixed up enough to take a few runs and make sure the forks or anything else important isn't bent.
Then make a decision on what to do with it.

Is that a hole in the cvt cover?
It looks like the rim is still useable... just file the nick smooth.
Keep us updated, looks like a cool project 8)

Nope, that's the centerstand foot piece, but it made me look closer

It looks like the rim is still useable... just file the nick smooth.

I just tried filling up the tire, and there is a quarter inch split leaking air as fast as I fill it, right above the rim damage, so no quick test drives today.
The wheel I'll get a better look at after I pry off the tire but I'd say its probably shot.

Keep us updated, looks like a cool project.

Thanks, I will

 duh it is the center stand.
I wouldn't know because I don't have a center stand

Yeah, I would toss that rim if it is leaking air though.

My photo bucket account is down..damn.

The story is that a member on our local scooter forum asked about insurance premiums going up since her husband laid over their PCX and they filed a claim for the damages.
I replied that I'd be interested to buy it if they "totaled it out".

Well, they didn't total it out, but the repair bill at the Honda shop was high enough, combined with my cash offer, they just bought a new one.
Win-win, since I get a clean title and an easily fixable bike.
I was actually shocked when the guy at the Honda shop rode it from around back since I hadn't seen any pictures of it and expected more damage.
The owners met me there and we did our paperwork in the lot and they were very nice about the whole thing. He said he hit a drainage culvert at the edge of the road I guess
(with the front edge of the tire/wheel) and it knocked him over.

Anyway, It look likes this bike is too nice to part out, which still leaves me wanting a donor bike to swap

The good news is that after removing the rest of the right footrest plastic,
it was just a matter of bending down the 2 mounting tabs that are welded to the frame,
and straightening out the metal footrest/floorboard mount and its good to go.

These will be the only parts I need to replace to be back to 100%:

Protector, Muffler 18318-KWN-900 $8.48

Cover, R. Side *Nha35 M* (Asteroid Black Metallic) Note: Asteroid black metallic

NHA35M; 64431-KWN-900ZA $16.24

Wheel Sub Assy., Fr. *Nh303 M* (Coo) (Mat Axis Gray Metallic) 44650-KZY-305ZA $173.32

Tire, Fr. (90/90 14 M/C 46 P) (Irc) 44711-KWN-901 $48.05

So for $250 bucks I can get back on the road.

Now I need to sell an Elite 110 or one of several other bikes before the wife realizes that this one isn't getting torn down!

Good stuff. I thought about picking up a local PCX that's on Craigslist for cheap, fixing it and selling it at major markup, but my wife NOPE'd all over that. It's harder to do now in my state anyways, they've changed the taxes to be a yearly vehicle tax to a once up-front overall sales tax. Instead of paying ~$30 a year for the bike, I would have had to pay $200-$300, which cut out the bottom line I would have made by buying / selling it.

There's no legal digital (pdf) version of the service manual out there. I have the analog version though, if you find yourself stuck, I can upload a few pages as "fair use" and not violate copyright law.
Currently ride: Nothing right now - mostly mountain biking with my boys until they're old enough to ride
Previously rides: 2011 Honda PCX 125, 2005 V-Strom DL650, 1974 Vespa Ciao, 2011 Honda PCX 170 (tons of mods - takegawa 170cc big bore kit, gears, etc), 1996 Honda Nighthawk 250, 1987 Honda Spree, 2000 KTM 125SX, 2003 Honda Silverwing, 2007 Genuine Buddy 125, 1998 Honda PC800, 2008 Buddy 125 (white), 2008 Buddy 125 (red), 2001 Honda Reflex, 1987 Honda Elite, 1988 Honda Spree, 2007 Yamaha Vino, 2007 Honda Metro, 2x 125cc pure-chinesium dirt bikes

Got my tire and wheel today along with the plastic exhaust guard.
The lower body colored plastic piece is on back order

Anyway, got the new tire/wheel mounted along with all the rest of the plastic bits that I had loosened up in order to bend the metal floor board mount back into place and took my first ride just as it got dark.
No plates yet, so just a mile or two in the subdivision.

My first impression is that...I'm very impressed!
Only got to about 48mph before I ran out of road, but it obviously was still pulling hard.
Its got a bit of a growl to it.... making me wonder if the exhaust may be a bit loose or tweaked at the head, or it could be normal.
For sure a new flat seat is needed as 6'2" needs a bit more knee room.

I'd say it would give my '90 Elite 250 a very close run and is much smoother.
Its not as smooth (engine wise) as the 2010 Elite 110, but pulls much stronger. It hits the rev limiter at 52, hard
I can see this being my "go to" bike when I want to run into town.
FI so I don't have to futz with carb issues and cold start problems, but fast enough to safely handle the 55 mph 2 lane that is my only way anywhere.

Didn't get any good pictures as it was dark by the time I got back, but you know how it looks anyway.

Why yes, thank you.
It's commercial grade stuff that my cousin sells.
He and I put it down over the course of several days probably 18 years ago.
Quite a process:
Acid wash/etch the concrete, then several layers of gray epoxy and sand.
Top coated with urethane clear. Its showing some slight UV wear near the OH door.
Not cheap materials
