Gears can be made, there isn't much to them. But before I can do anything, I've gotta have a viable tuning solution, for fuel, as well as ignition, and a couple compensation tables.sendler2112 wrote:Which no one sells. Kitaco makes a final gear for the PCX but is only 1 of the two gears involved and only 4% longer. That and more power from a big bore kit and mapper and some modified DR Pulley sliders might get you to redline at 70 mph on a 125. The only big advantage to the PCX150 over just doing the big bore on a 125 is a 400 rpm higher redline at 9,600.Mitch Detailed wrote:A very long gear setup would have to be used.

Also, there's a countershaft gear as well as the final drive gear on the market. Don't know what the 2 of them would do together, maybe someone will find out before me...

That is what puzzled me about the photo on WeBike only showing one gear. They would obviously have to be replaced in pairs with items 5 and 7 together so the increase would be 8.6% and for $80, this is worth a try.

Looks to me like 5 drives 6 which fits into 7 and 7 drives 8
To alter the gearing you would probably need to change 7 and/or 8

Actually, you can get away with size changes without much issue when designed properly, when people change their 1st thru 5th helical gears in honda d/b/f/h/k transmissions, the counter gear remains the same...sendler2112 wrote:That is what puzzled me about the photo on WeBike only showing one gear. No options for fitting a tyre with a larger rolling radius?

Haven't seen any as the series goes right to 70 for any of the wider widths which makes the radius about the same as what we have now.

for any given aspect ratio a wider width will give an increased rolling radius

120/80 tires add about half an inch to the rear wheel, I didn't do the calculations, but I think its like 2 or 3% difference. The frame prevents much larger tires from being used.

.45 inches bigger diameter. 2.2% longer is all.

120/80 means that the height is 80% of the width, so the height is 96mm
A standard rear tyre is 90mm high.
So with a 120/80 tyre on the overall diameter will be increased by 12mm

WeBike wrote me back and Kitaco said that the kit only comes with one gear. It doesn't make sense. How can you change only one gear of a pair and have it still reach the other gear? Everywhere else I have seen a similar kit for other bikes mentioned, you change #5 and 7.

Its how gears work, simply put, gears don't mate 100%, 100% of the time. Its hard to explain, but if you research 'how helical gears work', I'm sure you'll get some relevant information.sendler2112 wrote:WeBike wrote me back and Kitaco said that the kit only comes with one gear. I guess there must be a few percent of leeway they have to cheat the teeth profile. Yoo bad this up gear kit isn't like the others that do both gears. A full 8.6% would be much better. Especially with a 170cc kit which would have plenty if power to pull it to redline.

Want me to move this thread to the Performance section? It seems more relevant, lots of good performance talk here.

Most other scooters get both gears in the high gear conversion kit. +2 and -2 teeth.

And yeah we should start comparing the kits for the gearing combos.
Re: made the move... gotta get the info rolling in here tho.
Not much point changing the gearing without increasing the power...?

And there isn't much point to making more power when the major restriction is limited to gearing, they go hand in hand in the scooters situation.gn2 wrote:Not much point changing the gearing without increasing the power...?
