PCX150 Required Modifications at Time of Ordering

Post by Rick54 »

First, I'd like to say that this forum is great and very helpful for new scooter folks like myself. The culmination of forum experience is certainly lowering the learning curve, and I thank you for that! So I've caught the bug and thinking of ordering a 2017 PCX150 now for next spring. Is there anything that you new PCX150 owners wished you would have changed at the time of ordering?
I know there are many comments on after the fact tire selections such as going to City Grip tires when the OEM's wear out. Also there seems to be plenty of thread comments on suspension/shock changes.

Is there anything that you can suggest that is a must do modification before taking possession of one's new scooter?

There is absolutely nothing that is a must do before you order the bike. Unless it's a windshield accessory or a dealer installed item there are no options that you really can get from the factory. Ride the bike for a good month, get to know it and then you can accessorize it from there. My opinion…

A tall windshield. The Honda one is twice as expensive as the after market ones, but you can ride away from the dealer without thinking that you wish it had a windshield. I rode both of our bikes home, at different times, because my wife did not have a motorcycle license at the time, and the lack of a windshield was the first thing I noticed and wanted to change. Shocks and tailbox and tires, oh my!! Well those can wait for a rainy day, once you have learned how to install them yourself or can afford to take them to your mechanic for install. But windshield is a must immediately.
Currently own:
Red 2013 Honda PCX150

Givi tall windshield & tailbox - Lots of extra lights
Custom seat from Thailand - Bad Boy Airhorn
Takegawa Lowering Shocks - Michelin City Grip Tires
Headlight assy upgraded to LEDs w/HS5 main bulbs
NCY variator, drive face, and rollers

Based on reading on your background (no previous riding experience) I'd suggest the only thing should be changed on the PCX is you.
What I'm saying that your best investment is an MSF course and rider safety gear.
BTW welcome to the forums.

I just ordered a windshield for mine. Not real happy with the seat but that will wait.
