Panel removal made simple VIDEO

Would be amazing if Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki would do this.
This is the 2nd gen. of the KYMCO LIKE.


How long would it take to make a video like this?
Think of all the good will with owners & possible sales this would generate.
FYI - the first generation LIKE is stupid easy to service. You are looking at the valves in @20 mins. if you break for coffee.

Think of all the money Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki would lose :) KYMCO see's a radical move to up their position in the hearts and wallets of scooter enthusiast... might work.

Not sure if Kymco has the service network/dealerships that HONDA has. In order to sell product they have to make it more user friendly and DIY serviceable. On the other hand HONDA has a relatively large service network and therefore can keep the servicing in their pocket and get you into the dealerships for potential additional purchases.

Yes, but I think only a very small % of scooter owners ever take their scoots to a dealer for anything but tire installation.
I know only a very few who return to the dealer for servicing.
That is part of the attraction of these simple machines, world wide.

I love how Kymco makes it easy to access the cylinder head cover. There's a little access door you can just open and there it is. Valve clearance checks are a breeze.

If Honda made a video of someone, no matter how expert, taking apart a PCX to show how to access the valves, said video would do nothing but discourage sales and turn buyers in the direction of the Kymco Like.

The kymco Like 200i seems to be fuel injected; the engine at 163cc is a little bigger than a PCX's. The mpg does not compare favorably with PCX--Like gets 85 mpg, this even though the bike is lighter by about 50 lb.
The Kymco Super 8 15OR, another Kymco scooter, is very similar to PCX in engine size--151cc, but very dissimilar in mpg--the Super 8 gets 57mpg--and has no excuse for it considering it is almost 100 lb lighter than PCX.

So Honda bikes are not only better looking (IMHO), they are also, it would seem, technically more advanced and thus make more effective use of their fuel. So it is a trade off--ease of servicing vs better fuel efficiency and sexier lines.

It could also be argued that Honda bikes evade a lot of air friction drag that Kymco bikes--at least those in the PCX class-- can't because of their retro design.

A lady on YouTube reviewing her Like 200i said it can only do 55 mph!
Given it only has 8.5kW vs the 10kW of the PCX 150 - that's probably right on.
It also has less peak torque despite the larger engine capacity...
It's also air cooled and has small wheels. Good looking scoot though.
Fishy could chime in on its actual performance. They might go great with lighter sliders?

I think the Super 8 is carbie and not EFI, so don't expect great fuel economy from it.

I had a Kymco People 150 for about seven years. That thing was fantastic. It was carbureted and got about 80 mpg, but got 90 mpg if I put ethanol free fuel in it. Unfortunately it required 93 octane fuel (US measure), so unlike the PCX, I couldn't run it on the cheap stuff. It could do 64 mph top speed, but sounded like it was going to fly apart at those speeds (the PCX does not). The engine displacement was the same as the PCX at 153cc, but it made about 11 hp. It was never modified. I put about 25,000 miles on it before I sold it last year.

No, it wasn't a PCX, but Kymco scoots are about $1000 cheaper, so it's a trade off.

The LIKE 200i.. after 4yrs and 11, 000 miles.
I have had a choice of scooters some mornings over the past four years.
Kymco LIKE200I, Forza or Burgman 400ABS.
Most days chose the Forza to commute to work.
Traded Forza for load capacity of a Burgman 400 a year ago.(two up riding)
If not riding with passenger I choose the LIKE200I twenty days out of 21.
Retired now and ride the LIKE200I every day.

For big scoot....I liked the Forza much better. Ride quality. ..finish...etc.
Yep...the Kymco is EFI...and is no worries aircooled. ..dead easy to service...seems tuned for the long haul. Rebuilt seat and ride happy at near 0 degrees Fahrenheit to 90+.
LIKE is Chinese made (and price)..with Kymco quality.
Loved it for its looks (drawn by Italian design house)...ride it for its reliability and the fun factor.
Would buy it again. Hope the new 2nd gen. LIKE is as good.
