National Cycle Windshield Help ? Can I make it work ?

So i checked and double and triple checked because when ordering parts in Canada from the US you get hit with big shipping costs. This was the item I chose (tall version)

the part I received shows N20051 on the box, which is for the older version of the PCX. I did not see any part numbers on the bikebandit site; i went by their vehicle look up system. I did not figure this out until last night when I tried to install the screen and found it would not work. The screen mounting holes will not go far enough down to fit over the bike mount, they look to be spaced properly but there is windshield material blocking it , it hits the bodywork.
I believe bikebandit will accept a return at no cost to me because the fault is in their listing however if they offer me say a 50 percent refund if I keep the shield can I make it work?
It looks like I would only need to cut out two areas about 1" by 1/2" on both sides and it will fit on. Has anyone here modded an older screen to fit on the newer model?
