Its because the drive can't be placed in neutral.
If your scooter is sitting on the side stand with the engine running and someone blips the throttle, the scooter shoots forward and falls over.
Not just Honda, I believe its fitted to all CVT scooters.
Peugeot has a clever variation which allows you to start up and idle with the sidestand down but prevents the throttle working.

/quote]

why do you want to start without pulling the lever? It is because you want to burn rubber and make a squealing noise as you dart away from intersections, etc? When I was a kid that was what all the young bloods did in their big 8 cylinder cars--almost all car had 8 in those days, seems to me.

Please, say it isn't so.

Those "kill" features are generally termed "lawyer parts". While they may be good ideas, they are also subject to malfing and are generally annoying to riders of a bit more than half a brain. I leave them alone, myself, unless they cause trouble, then I bypass them or otherwise disable them. The side-stand solution is simple as I'm sure the brake lever is, as well. Get a manual and look at the wiring diagram for the solution to the brake lever (unless Honda are clever and have the "kill" integrated into the ECM).

I know a trick - I can leave the rear brake lever alone and still start my PCX - and I bet everyone else here with a PCX can do the trick too - anyone care to guess my trick? :D

Many if not most, but not all. My Kymco People 150 did not have a side-stand kill switch. And I'm fairly certain my Yamaha Vino didn't either (of course, it didn't have a side-stand ;) )

It's a common safety feature on most brands of motorcycle (Harley being one exception I know of) to have a kill switch on the side-stand that grounds the ignition circuit while the vehicle is in gear and the clutch lever is disengaged. This is just a carry-over since, as you said, a scooter has no manual clutch and no real neutral.

Anyway, to the OP, if you disable any of the ignition/starting system interupts on your scooter and you eventually sell the vehicle, you'd better be damn well sure you either get them back to working order, or make the new owner aware, in writing, what modifications were made. If the buyer gets hurt or damages the scoot because you were too lazy to pull a brake lever, and you have no documentation otherwise, that's on you.

Might it have something to do with the front lever?

Just done it and it is awesome ;-) Watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDQVBQQM_tI

Remove kill switch of the kickstand and left leaver. Simple and very useful for any Honda PCX 125/150 Rider.

Awesome? You're from the UK ffs

Even West Coast North Americans have discovered one or two more adjectives.

Whilst typing this I realised that I don't know what the collective noun for people from the USA is in particular. Anyone?
