First service

Post by lightpower »

Hi there,

I just had my first (600 miles) service.
I had to cut down on costs because honda wanted 200 GBP for that and my dealer's location is very far away from my home so i have searched arround my town and I found Yamaha store that said that they can do this for 60 GBP. Good deal I thought.

But now I have some reflection about what I did and if it was actually a good idea.
1. I am not sure if thay checked valve (I have paid 60 GBP and labor was 50 per hour - quite fast for valve checking)
2. They changed my oil to yamalube semi synthetic which I think is 10W-50 when honda 4 stroke is 10W30

I have asked them if they checked valve (I will sort this out) but I have problem with this oil - is it good for this engine?

Ask them to write in the service book and stamp that they did the valve check - if they did they should not worry about that :)

When a yamaha dealer does this, you risk warranty coverage should he have done anything wrong. Quite a risk, imo.

I doubt the valve clearance has been done, I had to pay £135 + vat to get the valves done. However, the first time I had them done was at 6000 miles and there was no issue.

Got mine done at a Yamaha garage on my first service as Honda couldn't fit me in. Wouldn't worry about it! Get on and ride it!

Thanx for help :)

They said valve was not checked (they say it is too early) - they will do it next time.

I have made another 100 miles and my pcx seems fine

Maybe it is just subjective impression but engine is slightly more noicy and vibrates more.

I'm waiting for GN2 to have his first service. So many years of frustration...
