Car driving test passed before 1 February 2001
You don’t need to take compulsory basic training (CBT) to ride a moped if you passed your car driving test before 1 February 2001. You’ll still need to complete CBT to ride a motorbike, however.

Car driving test passed on or after 1 February 2001
You need to take CBT to ride a moped if you passed your car driving test on or after 1 February 2001.
However, you won’t need to take further theory and practical tests or take CBT again.
RichyP, I think you will find it's a 50cc you can legally ride on a car licence pre February 2001.

And it must be a restricted 50cc. I think the top speed is supposed to be 28mph.

Simon0867 wrote:Thanks everyone. Got nowhere arranging the CBT today. Now looks like w/c 17th August if I'm lucky. It's a piece of nonsense the whole thing. I've had a car license for 25 years and completed 3 CBT's in the past yet still have to take this again. It is a money making exercise pure and simple. I heard that in Portugal anyone with a full car license can ride up to a 125cc before any additional testing is required. Now there is a sensible law. I'll keep you all posted on how it goes.
Totally agree with you Simon I've been riding a 50cc for 5 years and done my CBT last month and to be fair I never learned anything that I didn't know, like you I've been driving since 1986 and been driving an ambulance for 22 years as a Paramedic, but as you say its a money making exercise.
Suspect it's the same as here. You know you know, but they don't know you know.

Too many ex-bikes to list, and, besides, who really cares what we used to own?

It's here !!!!

Picked up my PCX from the Edinburgh Honda dealer this afternoon.
They take a photo of each new owner for their Facebook page so here is my mugshot...

http://i1262.photobucket.com/albums/ii6 ... lk13xg.jpg

Took the bike for a 5 mile spin around my usual routes before heading for home.

First thing you notice is how incredibly smooth it is. The wheels are larger than the Sym Orbit which makes a huge difference and the engine just purrs along. Tried the "idle stop" technology for a while, it works extremely well, however it is going to take a bit of getting used to hearing the engine die out whenever you stop at lights. The temptation is to blip the throttle in case it really has died which kind of defeats the purpose ! The brakes are very responsive, the dash informative and overall it just oozes quality as you would expect with a Honda. The under seat space is huge so no immediate rush to get my topbox fitted back on.

Any niggles...not really. I can feel myself up against the pillion section of the seat and a few more inches of room would have been handy, but then I am 6'2" so just need to sit up a bit straighter. Do I miss anything from the 50cc Sym, yes, audible indicators. There is a big flashing green arrow on the Honda dash but I prefer a bit of noise too just to jog my memory when it comes to cancelling. However this is a very minor point, everything else is top whack.
