Brought the baby home

Post by typhon2222 »

So today I brought home the newest baby: a new red 2013 PCX 150. :P

Crouched down behind the stock windshield, on a downhill, I managed to hit 67 or 68 mph, at which point the rev limited kicked in. Was a bit earlier than I was expecting: for whatever reason (perhaps the PCX review on MotorScooterGuide: http://www.motorscooterguide.net/Honda/PCX/PCX.html) I was expecting it to kick in a bit higher on a 2013.

Man, it had trouble getting up to that speed too. But I'm guessing it'll gain a bit of oomph once it's broken in a bit?

Good to have two matching reds in the garage now: the wife can now enjoy sole use of the 125, while I hog the new 150.

Congratulations. The power picks up until it peaks at about 2000 miles. Rev limiter still kicks in about 68 mph. You are supposed to take it easy (not wide open) the first few hundred miles. :P The 2015 is about 3 mph slower.

You can increase the top speed maybe 7-10 MPH for about $100 but I wouldn't worry about that for a while.

NCY variator and drive face in the mail! :)

Exploring under our new baby's under-seat compartment revealed a small ziploc bag containing two silver-colored washers and two black grommet-ish bits.

Could some kind soul cast light on these mysterious items?

But what specifically? I would take someone's hand off for a 10mph increase for $100

NCY Variator/ NCY Face Plate/ NCY 13g Rollers. I paid $85 for the variator and face plate, and the 13g rollers were $20.

Is the variator that good? Presumably 12g Dr pulley sliders will work just as well in it?

Not sure on Dr. Pulley. NCY seems to have gotten the specs right for optimal top speed increase. I think it all depends on what someone is looking for which may be right for them. Acceleration vs. speed, etc..

Anybody? Both our 125 and our 150 came with these wee baggies of parts.

And now that I cast my mind back, I'm pretty sure our Metropolitans similarly came with tiny ziploc bags of bits under the seat.

What on earth are these things for?

Seems to differ from dealer to dealer, country to country as to what extra "bits" Honda finds on the assemble line floor to stuff under the seat. I believe no matter what it's junk with exception of the helmet hook extension. Little piece of cable looped at both ends with plastic binding it together that helps hook a second helmet under a locked seat.

Give us a picture of your "bits" please

Oooohhhh, so THAT's what that thing is! I got one with each PCX -- each inhabiting its own little black pouch (along with a screwdriver: slot-head in the 125, phillips in the 150). Good to know.

Yeah, I have to say: the helmet hook of the PCX is a real pain to use: it curls on itself too tightly to accommodate the D-rings of my helmet: they simply won't fit around the 'hook'. Blech.

How is the helmet hook supposed to work? Where do you hook the helmet?
