Have you ever run out of gas in your PCX?

Post by yak »

The tank for the PCX150 is supposed to be 1.6 gallons USA. When i have used up 1.2 gallons, i get the flashing bar that indicates "low fuel". I have gone a bit further but only used 1.3 gallons before refilling. Has anyone been able to fill up with 1.6 gallons of fuel? 1.5 gallons?

I don't want to learn this the hard way, but it would be nice to know if i can really run the scooter for 1.6 gallons without running out of fuel. Every type of vehicle is different. Has anyone run the scooter until the tank was dry to test the capacity?

Not deliberately, but I did run the tank dry once on my PCX and once on my Forza.

I would like to track the gauges down on both my PCX and Forza just to know. I always top them off at home.

Couldn't you just lug around a small fuel container with you and then run it dry to your heart's content?

Not recommended to run it dry in past threads, possible damages beyond my understanding but my mechanic confirmed don't do it unless you have to. For the 2015 I strapped on a fuel can and set out to do the same. I took mine down beyond to the last flashing bar and 7 miles until that went off then drive 30 miles with no bars chickening out when my neighborhood mechanic stopped me and said don't run it dry.

Once when we were out riding when i had my Burgman 400 and my wife had her pcx 150, which she still ride, she pulled into a gas station on fumes. I didn't know that she was running low on fuel because my Burgman had a much bigger fuel capacity. Honda says 144 miles per tank. She got 184, but there was a lot of downhill riding at that point and a tail wind. Like i said, she came in on fumes. What upset me was that i was carrying a spare 1 gallon gas can just for her!
By the way, we were going between 40 and 45 mph most of the time, so faster would mean less mpg.

Shocking 1.6 gal tank on last gen models o_O I don't feel very special with 2.1 ether. Why do scoots have so little fuel on board. It's not like there's no room for more, the PCX step through is not really bare bones in that area. There must be some endless lines at the petrol station in Asian countries.

I ride modestly compared to some, town driving limited to 30-40mph and filling up and getting 130mog+, I get 221-230 trip miles with single bar flashing, and that lasts me 2.5weeks - plenty enough for a small cc scooter (2015 model)

Internet wive's tale. When a vehicle runs out of gas, the pump is still not "dry". It doesn't hurt anything. And as the OP points out, until someone tests the tank volume, we have only the spec to go by. So I tested it by running out the tank. It holds 1.65 gallonsUS/ 6.25L. When the light first starts flashing, you still have .4 gallonUS remaining. Which is a 1/4 tank! I push it to two round trips to work and back during the summer when I am getting 100 mpgUS and fill at 150 miles according to the odometer. Of course the 2015 and newer PCX's heard our cry for more range and come with a bigger tank.

I can't speak for the stock tank, but I ran my new tank for 326 miles before it ran out!

I would love to get 300 miles on a tank of gas! Why can't Honda make a gas tank that is interchangeable with those on the older bikes??!
