engine fast idle

Post by Tom192 »

Hi everyone riding to work today and at a set of lights noticed bike was idling faster than normal, bike was warmed up already. Blipped the throttle and it settled to normal and the idle stop then kicked in. It now will not idle normally at all. It spins the rear wheel quite fast when on the stand but does not seem to move the bike with me on it.

could this be a clutch issue or a throttle position issue? Bike seems fine at speed.

Sounds like throttle sensor or cable tension issue.
Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong

I would check the throttle at the engine end first. I might be all seized up with salty crappy wet roads at the moment.

Bike has been fine this morning so I think it may just have been mud and salt round the cable. Its only about 1k off its next service so hopefully it will behave until then

Give it a scoosh with some wd40 or similar. It won't do any harm.
