I see used helmets on Craigslist for $50 or less. At one time i bought 3 helmets in order to find the best fit. You can't ever know which one you will like when you are trying them on at the dealer.
In Phoenix, Arizona it is easy to get the helmet sweaty in summer. Nice to have a back-up. I have one with the logo XEL or X-EL. Fits well. Then a Zamp helmet that i haven't worn yet ($50 on Craigslist).
I have read the articles about not using a helmet after a smash. Or when they get too old.
The reason i am thinking about this.... there is an ad for 2 full-face helmets for $35 each. My size. How many helmets can i own before i am considered a hoarder?
How many back-up helmets do you have? What types and why?

I bet the summers can be brutal out there. I got two helmets one is a full face and the other is a 3/4 helmet and was my first. I only use the full face now. I do think about getting another one just for the hell of it.

Two helmets, I bought a white modular on eBay before I got my scoot, then tried an LS2 full face and liked it a lot better.
The white is practical in our hot weather but mostly worn by posties (postmen) and cops. I don't fit either profile

As I only have one head I only need one helmet.
Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong

Removable linings help, so can be washed if needed, or get some spare linings for an expensive helmet and swap them out. My first cheap £40 helmet has removable linings, is DOT, ECU rated and extremely well made for the price (stiching and build quality better than some £100 ones I've seen).

3 hats at the moment. Full Face Shoei, Modular Nolan and 3/4 Nolan. The 3/4 was used in my MSF course. That one has special meaning...a keeper. Maybe one day I'll make a lamp out of it and hang it from my garage ceiling

I have two helmets. One is black/silver modular and one is a red 3/4 for really hot weather (and matches both bikes
). We tend to go deer viewing near dusk in the rural bottom areas so I keep a clear shield on the red one for lower light and an Iridium on the modular although they are easy to change. The modular is better for cold weather. I would toss a helmet if it got a hard hit.

3 Bell helmets for me. Pit boss for around town and hot summer days. Mag 9 for highway trips in hot weather and cooler around town riding. RS-1 for Cool and cold weather long distance
