Standard PCX exhaust, rust at 700 miles?
thats right, I'm seeing patches of rust coming through ALREADY, despite only doing 700 miles on the bike.. i do use the bike in the rain, but i do clean my scooter often. its not been cold enough here for salt to be spread on the roads, therefor can only assume the standard pcx exhaust isn't the rest from the factory?

Someone else posted a pic of their 2015 exhaust with oval shape patches of rust - almost as if the heat and internal workings caused different rates of cooling/rusting. Do you cover it or leave it parked outside in the rain? The exhaust is not stainless steel, and I feel when cold and exposed to poor conditions will suffer. Others recommend painting it with high-temp paint.

Probably just the rain and humidity over time. A blued barrel on a fine gun can rust in one wet outing if left to dry on it's own. You can get one of those replacement stainless pipes? Where do you live, generally?

When I had my PCX serviced at the dealer (1st service) they had loads of used bikes on display, many costing £1000's. The bikes were cleaned up and in good nic, but what caught my eye was the exhausts on some otherwise sparkling beasties - completely rusted from to back. I know it's expected and not worth them putting a new one on (maybe!), but it's something that would bother me if buying a used bike. I'd try and get some money off

Just curious what are your washing habits? None, spray wash, sponge bath?danieljw wrote:i do also have bits of surface rust on the scooter frame if i look under the seat :/ this bike is 3 months old! and 700 miles

Ignore it or pop a teeny bit of paint on it

ok an update... been to the dealer today, and slight bits of paint cracking on the frame welds is normal,he was happy to show me countless other bikes new and old.... especially in the uk where the weather isn't the best.
As for the exhaust, well seeing as water is a bi-product of combustion, its almost impossible to stop the standard exhaust rusting as they will rust from the inside out.. best solution is an aftermarket system.

Not noticed any paint cracks on mine - 2100 miles now done. Can you upload a few pics of the problem area(s)? Is this underneath or front/rear areas?

Looks more like brazing than welding

Brazing is where you use a bronze rod. Looking where the paint chipped off it looks like bronze.
