2015 MPG readout accurate?

I'm kind of excited to use this feature on the 2015 to help motivate me to slow down a bit and aim for better fuel economy. Has anyone here checked the MPG readout on the bike and measured it compared to the old fashioned way to verify its accuracy?

BTW, I bought my bike used a few days ago, and with nearly 600 miles on the trip meter, it was showing a 101mpg avg from the prev owner's exploits. Since I do a lot of freeway driving, I don't expect to get that lucky. Been averaging 80 or so with my (2) 2013's. Would like to think I could get better on side streets, but whatever I gain by not pushing wind on the freeway, I'd prob lose with the myriad of stop lights all around. Jealous of you rural guys that can hop on and go 10-20 miles at 50mph without hardly stopping. You guys are the ones on Fuelly getting the 120mpg figures!

I find it very accurate as it settles down from a full fill-up (above the bad and down from the brim) to approaching a few bars on the readout - whenever I have achieved 139-141mpg, the mpg readout is within a few mpg of that.

I found the speedometer deadly accurate according to GPS... can't say about mpg

I'm assuming that the technology that calculates MPG on the PCX is the same used in many automobiles. Probably uses fuel flow data from the fuel injection, time, distance.

Having owned a number of cars with such computers, I've found them to be pretty consistently about 5% optimistic. This seems to be in line with what a lot of other folks on the web report. For some reason, the computers seem to never err on the pessimistic side. I don't think I've ever checked the MPG manually and found it to be higher than what the trip computer said it was.

It would not surprise me at all if the PCX econo calculator is about the same.

Well, mine had been slightly better than the gauge has indicated i.e. calculated re. fuel in since reset of trip meter / exact litres in to same point in neck - done this about 5 or so times now. If I got 141mpg, meter showed about 140, if I got 138 (worst week, bad traffic!), gauge showed 137-139. I do seem to get great mpg though! My fuelly data is off the petrol pump printout with all the details and my exact trip each time (using that rather than total miles as I did not join Fuelly at the start).

Just yesterday I filled for the first time the fuel tank, and the dash indicated 2.2 l/100km, and just minutes ago it indicated for a brief moment 2.3 l/100km, and after filling, the old fashion way (calculator) indicated 2.33 l/100km, so at least this first refueling is extremely accurate!

Wow, so the fuel consumption is really that good!

I know the Honda site states 133MPG but the dealer himself said that I can certainly expect over 100MPG.
Havent picked mine up yet so have yet to see how good it really is and what sort of range I can get on a full tank..

I assume it takes about £11.00 to fill up?

Yes, it's really unbelievable! I have driven 300 kms with 7 liters, so with the full tank (8 liters) I could run about 342 kms! (And most of my kms were with 2 people on board!)

Here in Spain, I paid 9 euros for 7 liters. Very affordable maintenance!

1.85 US gallons at $11.85 USD equivalents? $6.41 per US gallon. That explains all of the scooters.

Yes, gas prices here are incredibly HIGH!!! (And Spain is cheaper than most European countries...)

You can be extremely happy in the US, having such affordable gas prices!!!!

I wonder if the USA PCX's fuel read out is calibrated in UK gallons the same way the CBR500R is? Those guys get a 20% optimistic error when reading out in gallons.

So the electronics are not calibrated for the country? litres may be correct, but the mpg is wrong in non UK countries? Strange as the US and Thailand and such are much bigger markets.

This is true for the CBR500's. MPG is read out according to Imperial gallons. Don't know about the PCX yet.

US is a bigger market by population, and maybe for things like dirtbikes and ATV's, but I have a hard time believing we sell nearly as many scooters as even a small country like Vietnam or Thailand, or other European countries where scooters are much more popular. Still would like to hear definitively from someone in the US that their guage is accurate for MPG, and that it is calibrated to US gallons I just reset the trip meter and took a trip to the beach to go for a run, and it was 11.9 miles round trip, and I got 113.9mpg! If that's US gallons, that's amazing! The MPG readout is really making me not want to pin the throttle. Seems like what others have said, that 20-40mph is kinda the sweet spot.

Next time you fill up you can let us know if the computer read out and the tank fill mpg methods are the same.

With this kind of fuel economy, and the little amount that I ride, that could take a while! Especially splitting mileage between 3 PCX's! Lol.

Fuelly seems to show accurate UK (imperial) MPG for PCX 150's - I checked using miles covered against litres in (same size across the world?) and the UK MPG given was correct. It seems even the bigger 150cc version often gives great fuel economy - several I saw got 125-130 UK MPG!

I have done about 45 miles since I picked up the new bike yesterday and only one bar has disappeared so far on the fuel gauge. Marvellous!

First bar disappears on my 2013 when 1/4 of the tank is gone after about 40 miles. The next at 60 and the third bar flashes away at 80 miles leaving half the tank. The last bar starts flashing when there is 1/4 tank remaining.
