Where do people live

Post by waspmike »

I'm curious about where people live and where they ride, there seems to be two camps.

I live in a coastal village, neither urban nor suburban, completely rural.
My scooter only gets used for travel to work, roughly 270 miles a week.
Most of the journey is open road, the last few miles is city.
Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong

In the flemmish region of sweet little Belgium, in the countryside, yet the long open roads don't exist in Belgium ...
A Belgian beer please, I don't like water, that's the shit that rusts my PCX!

I live in N. Central Pennsylvania, in the Williamsport area -- birthplace of Little League Baseball. It's hilly, lots of nice 2-lane back roads plus 65+ MPH travel on the interstate and rt. 15 which I avoid like the plague ( the 65 part ).
Almost hit a big deer the other night -- she was standing right in the middle of the road as I rounded a curve. I braked, she looked at me calmly and just strolled off. Lots of wildlife around here --- some are the 2-legged variety. ;)

My daily drive/ride is 35 miles. 7-8 miles of that is a small highway, but the other 27 miles is fields and trees. If it weren't for the hwy, I'd only pass a handful of cars daily.

I live in a suburb of Atlanta, but these suburbs are like little cities, and our house is 2 minutes from major grocery, retail and mercantile stores, as well as movie theaters and multiple restaurants...and many fast food facilities. We can actually walk to everything. The freeway is about 15 to 20 minutes down the road (8 miles). Hospitals and doctor's offices range from right around the corner to 20 minutes away. There are gas stations on 3 of the 4 corners within a 5 minute walk from our house. Yet, we can ride for 20 minutes and we will be in the country, and in the mountains in 30 minutes. So, are we in the suburbs or are we urban dwellers?

I live 25 minutes from central London UK I use my pcx to learn THE LONDON KNOWLEDGE in order to get a black taxi licence.
It takes 3/4 years to learn every road and place of interest. I ride the pcx for 6/7 hours a day and about 100 miles per day. Last year i did 15000 miles and only replaced 1 back tyre although the front is now very due.

Right near the San Diego airport a block from the bay. The roads around me are either litterd with traffic lights and intersections, or freeways. My MPG suffers compared to most everone else here as a result. My freeway riding is spent riding full throttle almost all the time which nets me about mid-upper 70's for mpg. For one tank, I'd like to try riding slower with less stops on some more rural roads and see what it's capable of!

I live in the suburbs, but commute into the city.

My PCX works great all over the suburbs, and handles inside-city highway traffic very well. It's only country highway traffic at 70+mph that I have trouble with.
Currently ride: 2011 Honda PCX 125 - Upgraded windshield and seat, keeping this one mostly stock
Previously rides: 2005 V-Strom DL650, 1974 Vespa Ciao, 2011 Honda PCX 170 (tons of mods - takegawa 170cc big bore kit, gears, etc), 1996 Honda Nighthawk 250, 1987 Honda Spree, 2000 KTM 125SX, 2003 Honda Silverwing, 2007 Genuine Buddy 125, 1998 Honda PC800, 2008 Buddy 125 (white), 2008 Buddy 125 (red), 2001 Honda Reflex, 1987 Honda Elite, 1988 Honda Spree, 2007 Yamaha Vino, 2007 Honda Metro, 2x 125cc pure-chinesium dirt bikes

Sweden, suburb to Stockholm. Not so many scooter commuters here, no idea why but I'll think it will increase as number of MC's have increased quite much the last decade. Use the PCX to commute to work about 5-6 km (I know, I could bicycle that distance, but scooting is much more fun...)

Being i live in Devon in the UK a lot of my riding is down lanes (muddy ones with hedges either side) so the combi brake comes in very hand on this type of terrain! :)

I live as far west in Texas as one can get, in the middle of the Chihuahuan desert. New Mexico is twenty minutes north and the house is about 5 miles from the Mexican border. It would be fun to ride over there, but of course, it's much too dangerous with the cartel wars taking place.
