Free scooters -- if you'll advertise their product

Post by gokidd »

I am drawn to great marketing images, I admit it.
Even though I am WAAAAY out of the demographic sought by Red Bull beverages, I really like their logo and their association with some exciting motor sports.
However ... if someone even opens a can of the stuff in my general vicinity, the smell makes me ill.
And, yes, I did try a sip. Nope, it is not for me.
Marlboro -- their logo art on F1 cars is iconic, even to the point that it can be recognized at races in the countries where the name of the cigarette has to be replaced by a generic barcode of sorts (so as not to promote smoking).
If a company called you tomorrow and said they'd give you a brand new scooter for a year -- as long as they could paint the entire vehicle with their advertising -- what business would you totally refuse to ride around on?

My mother brought me up on the principle that nothing in life is free. ;) Pretty much holds true every time.
2010 Honda PCX 125 in Thailand (White) - "White Lightning" Sold in Sept 2017 :(
2009 Yamaha Majesty YP400 in USA (Metalic Titanium) - "The Throne" Sold in June 2020 :(

All of them.

A local news story brought this one to mind -- Bimbo, a regional baking company.
I don't wanna ride for "Bimbo".

Heck, I don't really care what's on the scooter so I'd take that deal for pretty much any advertising. Only caveat would be something that would get me shot or run over, such as a gun-control group's ad here in Texas.
2013 PCX 150 [now an ex-bike, soon to be consigned to the bottom line of the sig]
2013 Silver Wing ABS (Black)
1971 BMW R75/5 (White)
Too many ex-bikes to list, and, besides, who really cares what we used to own?

Ive used them occasionally in the garage as bodges.

My mother in law used to use them as airlocks for her wine brewing if she was stuck. I'd never drink the stuff. Especially not the red :)

I saw on TV some survivorist use one to start a fire in the rain soaked jungle of South America.

Not sure why he would be carrying that in the first place but makes for interesting TV I guess. :?
