GN2's thread

Post by Taz »

From our local paper this morning and the pic is white sand, not snow. Its about 23 degrees C today so hardly cold. The bay is about 30 miles from my house.:

"
IS this striking gentoo penguin lost or a runaway on the adventure of a lifetime?

The penguin, which was about 50cm tall, was snapped by Fortescue Bay campground manager Kate Frankcombe as she walked on the beach on Wednesday morning.

Ms Frankcombe said she saw a lot of interesting sights in her peaceful part of Tasmania, but was still a little surprised that she bumped into the penguin soaking up some early morning rays.

"He was beautiful," Ms Frankcombe said.

"The penguin had obviously never been in contact with humans before because it did not have any fear at all."

The nearest gentoo penguin colony to Fortescue Bay is understood to be Macquarie Island, about 1000km away.

"He did not seem distressed at all and looked healthy and uninjured.

"I am always finding beautiful things on the beach but this was certainly a bit of an oddity."

Gentoo penguins have bright red-orange bills and conspicuous white eye patches, which make them easily distinguishable from other species of penguin.

The "ET" of Penguins. Good looking little fella but he must be lonely :( all be himself. Good to know he's unharmed. I wonder what became of him after this article was written  Phone home wee one...phone home

Yup! Got one in 9 weeks ago. :D

Needless to say, we're excited. I sold the truck, the Silverwing, the Buddy 125, and am selling the KTM too, I won't have as much time to ride with an anklebiter running around. Big changes, but definitely good ones. :)

Congratulations Dave. I gave up flying and biking for my kids for a while but the little teenage darlings are worth it!
