pcx150 top speed increase

Post by 8milimeter »

Maryland just changed to rules for motorcycles. Your top speed has to be 5mph over the posted limit. So that keeps me off of 65mph highways. I want to have a top speed of 70+, so I'm legal on 65mph posted highways. Which Variator Roller kit should I buy ?. A link would be nice !

Variator (properly tuned), Intake, exhaust, taller tires and windshield. Should get you to 70mph but not comfortably. These bikes are not designed to go 70+ for long stretches of time and that's coming from someone that had a PCX that did 70 pretty easy (top speed 78mph for me).

All you need for 70 plus. But you'll need indicated 75 to allow for speedo optimism. How will Maryland Trooper Plod measure said speed. All PCX will do more than 70 if on the centre stand and revved up.

A 15 year old PCX125 will do 122kph or 76mph with a JCosta Variator. You just need to get your revs up a bit.
But JCosta is not designed for sustained full throttle ridding. Such as in US, South Africa or Aus.
If you are a big guy with lots of aero drag you may have problems whatever you do.

Will you do the work yourself? If so easy.
If not we will need to be specific with the solution. Then all you need is a speed camera ticket for 70 or over :D

After some searching and reading I'm going with the NCY Variator, drive face and 13g rollers.
There is a speed indicator at a local work area that I can use to verify and document my speed.

The reason I'm doing this is the 5mph top speed over posted limit is written on my registration card.

You can probably get away with just the drive face. My info says NCY at 117mm dia is no bigger than stock. AdvancPro is 120mm so if you must you can combine the NCY variator- if you need a new one - with the AdvancePro drive face. Dr. Pulley variator has a 121mm dia. but that would have to come from Taiwan.
13g is good . Dr. Pulley or similar polygon weights will give you better ratio spread. Depend what you have access to.

Is your speed indicator a drive by or rollers? Drive by is real; roller will be the same as putting it on the stand. If it is a brake then how to know what load to put on.

You should get a phone mount and use the GPS on your phone to get accurate speeds.
