Empty streets, I-70, & SHELL 93 Nitro
fueled up with a $1.44 of Nitro before heading out of town.
Back through town just at sunrise - empty streets.
Earlier, I-70 traffic was mostly trucks carrying T-Paper...and a few cars chasing them.

Your camera takes good night shots . . ..
Not grainy at all.
To think I rode under that bridge over 40 years ago on my way out to Colorado makes me wish I still owned my '73 TX650A. No worries about toilet paper or concerns about eating red meat back then.

The detergent compound that Shell uses contains nitrogen based compounds. Big deal, eh?Mel46 wrote:Sooo.... what is Nitro?? I thought that it was some kind of new super drink, like that 5-hour energy drink.

In Oz, BP advertises their fuel as "clean"? Does that mean the other brands contain dirt?

So if Shell has their special additive, BP has theirs, and Chevron has Techron, if I mix those together in my tank will I have a super clean engine that runs like it is a bigger bike??

So I guess that "swill" they were peddling back in the 60's was second rate compared to the new and improved Shell with Nitro eh?
Fuel economy then was 30 cents a gallon.

I've no problem if you guys would rather stay with your less posh blends.
However, looks like Premium blend if off the menu today, until Grady brings back the hose here at your "O'Leary's Live Bait & Cold Coke Emporium"

Re: Empty streets, I-70, & SHELL 93 Nitro
In the 1960's we had lead in our gas to act as a lubricant for the valves and pistons. Now we can't put lead in the gas, but the gas itself still works the same as it always has. The additives clean the valves and help to lubricate them as the fuel is burned. Each producer has their own version of detergent and lubricant, but they all do about the same thing. However, many of the gas stations that sell off brand/no name gas are purchasing gas without any additives, while others are buying the remainder of whatever does not get purchased within a delivery...sometimes mixing brands, so keep that in mind.

Amoco "White Gas" used to be the go to for 2-stroke outboard motors. Spark plugs lasted longer. Judging by the sign for fishing tackle I'd say the place was near a lake or something.
That said, I always thought the leaded gas smelled better.
I often wondered if the gasoline business used the smoke and mirrors technique to maximize distribution. However, many of the gas stations that sell off brand/no name gas are purchasing gas without any additives, while others are buying the remainder of whatever does not get purchased within a delivery...sometimes mixing brands, so keep that in mind.

Never tried Shell 93 Vpower, its so dang expensive. But got to try now since gas is cheap.
I do use super unleaded but its cheap Arco most of the time. I do feel a slight improvement in throttle response over regular.

Re: Empty streets, I-70, & SHELL 93 Nitro
There are stations that now sell unleaded fuel without the 10% ethanol crap in it, but the price is usually around that of the hi-test stuff. Your bike does not need hi-test, but it also does not need ethanol, so you have a choice.
Unfortunately there are also stations that don't give you any choices at all. For instance I noticed a sign at a Mobil station that said that ALL of their blends contained 10% ethanol. That kind off sucks. My bike will run on it, but my car complains...it still runs, but it complains...sort of like kids that don't want to go to school. They will go, but they will complain so that you know that they don't like it.
