Black Friday ride, with lights

Post by fish »

Out 2 hrs before sunrise for a safe ride today, even though temps around 32 - because roads aren't frozen. Yet.

A tip to myself: to keep gloves even a little warm on a cold day for the return ride - put them under the seat to take advantage of the residual engine heat down there! (the LIKE200i's underseat is much warmer than the Liberty's - but they're both warm after a long ride in the winter) I used to put gloves in the top case when dismounting.

PS: I'm thinking 32 is about the lower limit for HeatTech, Icon Sanctuary & Oxford Rain jacket - will need another layer for colder rides (a normal person would: 1) wait for sunrise, 2) ride behind a screen - or both)

so jealous ---- was intending to take my PCX out for a ride today but my wife had other ideas...Shopping for a new Fridge/freezer...which took up all the day :(. The weather is getting colder her min the uk with Minus 6 C expected tonight . The local council are throwing down salt /grit like its going out of fashion ...so hopefully tomorrow the roads will be dry and I get a chance to have a ride on my new pCX. :)

With all due respect I urge you to limit the rides to "non ice forming" conditions. That damn black ice is a demon. It can be pushing 40 F. as the morning edges onward but the ice lingers in the shady spots. But you already knew that . . . right?.

I ride in cold temps but learned how slippery ice is a long time ago on my Suzuki 90. Used to practice on a frozen shallow cove at low tide when the ice was laying on the bottom. Couldn't get away with it today. Too much waterfront development and someone would complain.

Watery covered ice is the absolute worst . . ..

we have no snow at the moment in the UK - other than on very high ground such as the mountains of Wales and Scotland. Black ice can be an issue but the UK Highways authorities seem to panic as soon as the temperature drops toward freezing...For example...we have had nearly two weeks of rain in the North of the UK...Today was the first real dry / sunny / cold day and the roads were dry...Along comes the council /highways gritting trucks and ...and try roads are now WET....Vehicles dissipate the salt / grit they have spread and then we have ICE problems....Catch 22 situation ......and then the gritting starts all over again........more salt to destroy the natural environment

The ice on the road pic previously posted was taken in days of yore . . .. No snow on the ground in my area currently.

Our first real snow (likey a snow/rain mix) event is coming Sunday and into Monday according to most recent forecasts.

It will be a real hoot.

Yup, same "mix" in the forecast here OldG. I'll get out and about tomorrow and then sit cozy on Sunday (a day of rest anyway).

Neither have I.......both coasts of fla are great to ride 365 day a year, it’s the interior of the state that bakes, hence nobody retires there.....
