Added a windscreen

Post by vito »

I added the Givi Universal windscreen that Revzilla.com recommended for my 2019 PCX150. Its a smallish windscreen but I was hoping it would help block some of the airflow to my chest and head, especially when at higher speed (50 to 60 mph). After installing it (more effort than I would have expected) I went for a nice 45 mile ride. I think (but I'm not positive) it has helped reduce the air pressure on my chest, but being a short windscreen, it has done nothing regarding air pressure on my head and face. I still think that for the modest cost ($120 including tax) it is worth it, but I wonder if I should have gone the higher cost and asked the Honda dealer to order and install the Honda screen. On the other hand, today is already very hot and humid, so having a good amount of air hitting me made for a pleasant ride. I specifically will NOT be riding my Goldwing today because I know I would be suffering when we reach the predicted 115 degree heat index this afternoon).

You might try adding an inexpensive lip deflector .....it is been discussed your many times that mounts on the top of the windshield ....it adjusts much of the wind to go over your head…

Thanks. I might try that. Years ago, when I had a Honda Silverwing, I added the Laminar Lip addition and it did seem to help. I forgot about that.

FWIW, I tried to reach Laminar Lip, which has an active website. Email to them was returned as undeliverable. Calling them resulted in an endlessly ringing phone line. Any suggestions for other vendors for this type of product to add to an existing windscreen?

If you can afford it maybe consider the new one your warm season "go to" windscreen and when the weather starts to turn colder invest in a taller one.

In the mean time others can chime in here with their recommendations and experiences . . .. :geek:

Thanks, but this item doesn't really look like what I wanted. On a previous bike I had the Laminar Lip extension, which adhered with two simple hook-and-loop disk's, very unobstrusive, and curved so that they actually deflected the air over the head and helmet.

Well, here is a site that sells them, but You may find that you will have to modify one for that particular windshield.

I fitted the official Honda tall screen on my 2019 PCX.

I'm 6ft 3inches and it helps with my chest. But my head still gets hit with wind.

It's way better than the original one. IMO it should ship with the taller screen as standard.

Vito is referring to a screen deflector that would be similar to the Laminar Lip pictured below that "fits all PCX 150's" (he can't connect with said company).

Agree. It has a Neat, Clean appearance and it's Hardware is the not "in your face" (so to speak).

@ Vito, maybe(?) Laminar is on vacation and closed down their website temporarily? Or a personal situation arose? I'd hate to think they're gone for good. Wow :|

It seems to me that if you can't find what you are looking for then you should be able to make one yourself. I made one for my wife's bike before I bought her the tall Givi windshield. It worked quite nicely. I think I have it somewhere among my miscellaneous parts. (Once I pull something from my bikes they could end up somewhere in a dark corner. ) ;)

Home Depot sells sheets of Plexiglas and Lexan...and industrial strength Velcro.
You can bend it with a heat gun and a vise.
