2 degrees C is too cold for me to ride on Christmas Day

Post by davenowherejones »

I want to ride my scooter but 2C is too cold for this old man on Christmas morning.

I used to ride in this temperature but old age is making me lazy.

Not much open today anyway.

It is dark and I am going back to bed until SPRING.

Sounds like a plan.

Right now it is 55°F out and I still feel like I need a nap.

We were going to watch some of our grandkids open presents, but one of them woke up with the flu. What a way to wake up on Christmas. Poor thing.

I managed to put in about 70 miles 2 days ago during the one day in December when Seattle did not get rain/mist or completely gray weather.

I made sure I did not miss this special occasion.

I'm a little older than Davey and a little younger than Mel, lazy and like naps.
That being said shovelled some snow this morning and thru a dump truck tire and rim into the back of my

Our weather warmed up enough to go out for 40 miles this morning. It was 46° F, but the wind was gusty (like to 30 mph). We have not had any snow yet, so there is no salt on the road, but it was pretty wet from yesterday's rain and the damp night. I also have a brand new rear tire, so I took it pretty easy. Still, REALLY nice to get out.

Wind was howling - too cold to take off the helmet.

It was warm in my region today as well. . .. The wind was drying up yesterday's rain.

I took a couple of rides around the waterfront on the Zuma. . .maybe 10 miles in all. Tons of people were out walking, jogging, or exercising their dogs.

Only saw one other bike on the road and it was a Harley. 8)

Seems I was diverted along the way.
Looking forward to a short trip with an older sister and a younger brother to Haida Gwaii, remote BC coast, maybe time for a reset?
If I can remember how to use a camera will snap some shots, wish me luck.

We had a custom seat made. I wanted to be higher and back as far as I could be given the seat pan configuration. As I went higher, the Admiral needed to go higher to see over me. She now has a palatial amount of room, and there is enough cushion between the foam and gel inserts that we probably do not have to get new shocks (but we might ... WTH - life is short). Amazingly enough, the seat support piston still holds the seat up (but just barely).

Early phase of shaping:

Detail of stiching. I really wanted the red thread on the black to pick up the stripes.

I got out on the Forza 300 a bit today after a bad night.

We had a storm in Hope, BC that brought down a tree on the power lines north of Boston Bar (about 70 km away) that made the whole Fraser Canyon go dark.

I went out in the truck last night to check on a few things. The east part of Hope still had power so I bought the last big cooked pork chop from the grocery store. I walked around town eating it.

I made my way home. The power was still out but only in my little area. Eventually it came on and I hoped my natural gas furnace would give me some heat.

No heat. My Google Nest Thermostat had run its battery down too low. I tried to charge it with my tablet charger. It would not take much of a charge. The lithium battery might be getting too old.

I did a Support Chat with Google in Las Vegas on how to get it going. They went thru their standard procedure and I got no heat. They gave up and said I needed to have one of their registered technicians look at my system at my expense.

They gave me a phone number but it was a bit strange. I asked where the guy was and they said Fort St John, BC. He was 1000 km away or 600 miles. I don't think he was going to come for a 5 minute service call.

It was now 3am. I tried to search Google YouTube for the repair of my Coleman furnace. I found a video on resetting a high limit switch. Bingo, I had heat, time to go to bed.

I woke up at 1pm. Had a shower and hit McDonalds for breakfast. The temp was 6C before my shower and 4C after McD's. I decide to go to Yale to check my lottery ticket. Blue sky so I pushed on to Boston Bar. I won a free lottery ticket.

Getting dark, time to head home. I stopped at Hells Gate to take pictures of Hell being closed for the winter. It was getting much colder. On to Yale and then Tim Hortons Hope for a quick coffee. Dark by the time I rolled into my shed.

My furnace has a computer, the thermostat has a computer, the router has a computer, the laptop has a computer and the iPhone has a computer. Too many computers just to stay warm. Not good if it ever goes down to -40C.

Excellent start to a Happy New Year indeed!

And keep those travel pics on cue. . ..

Great destination for a local ride. There's a couple of boat launch ramps I ride by in my area also. Makes me think of Summer and paddling out on the water. :D

Are you sure it's not 6 or 7?

BTW I've got some pieces of reflective tape like yours but just on my Top Case. The stuff really does pop when you shine lights on it.

FWIW I put deer whistles on all my bikes/scooters. o_O

Usual temps here in Brisbane, Oz. Expected high of 29C with a low of 19C.

Trying not to sound like I'm bragging.

Dammit I am bragging. Beautiful weather for riding. :D :D :D

That is not fair. It is summer there. We are dealing with the beginning of winter here. (Well, winter sort of began earlier than this but that usually means rain until January. Then just cold and windy.)

Even though it has been many, many years since I was down that way, I remember how nice December was down there.
