2016 PCS ABS

Post by PCX2016 »

I am in SE Asia and hope to pick up a 2016 PCX to. It is hard to get information, exactly on this model from the deal and because of the language barrier. However, I did a VIN search and was able to get a little bit of history on where it was built (Thailand). It surprised me because I didn't think the 2016 had keyless start. So my question is about ABS, was this an option, or did it come standard.

As far as I know the 2019 model is the first one to have ABS, and then only on the front brake. The 2016 model came one year after Honda did a complete remodel of the PCX. The 2019 model was the next remodel, so any PCX from 2015 through 2018 was the same except for color choices. ABS is not an option.
Currently own:
Red 2013 Honda PCX150

Givi tall windshield & tailbox - Lots of extra lights
Custom seat from Thailand - Bad Boy Airhorn
Takegawa Lowering Shocks - Michelin City Grip Tires
Headlight assy upgraded to LEDs w/HS5 main bulbs
NCY variator, drive face, and rollers

Yes, Smartkey was first introduced in the 2016 model in some countries including Thailand. I remember because I got my long-awaited Thailand made 2015 model in February 2016, and few months after that the 2016 model came out.

Wow, great.. How secure is the smart key. Bike theft is quite common here. I plan to put a tracker in it. Besides physically taking the moto, can a theft start it without the smart key.?

I have the 2016. No ABS. Smart Key quite secure since it comes with an alarm too.

but thieves are creative, it pays to remain vigilant all the time.

Sorry, correction: The 2016 model came out probably in the final quarter of 2015, before I got my 2015 PCX! Here in my country motorcycle market is very small, I waited for almost a year for my scooter.

I only have the alarm (first introduced in model 2015, I think), so not sure about the smartkey. But maybe in a situation where someone were to hijack your bike while riding it, will the engine stop when you're out of range? With my traditional key, I imagined I had to remove my key and hide or throw it away so it can't take off with my bike.

As we all know, there are exceptions to rules, so there were SOME PCX bikes in Thailand that were part of the Honda test groups, such as one that was in a Motorcycle Show there that had duel disc brakes.(I remember someone here giving a link to it). I would have loved to get that bike!

I believe 2019 UK bikes come with two fobs now, but the initial ones only come with one. In the Forza (UK) group the charge for a replacement fob is £200 (they lost it not stolen).
What I have read of attempted thefts for fob versions, there is physical damage but I have not read an incident of the usual low-lifes actually starting the bike.
