New Honda PCX Electric and Hybrid in 2018!
Didn't expect that they would come this soon!

Like I said, I was waiting for an all-electric, but this electric PCX underseat storage does not seem to make sense.. I especially like the more symmetrical, no exhaust-look of electrics.

Too bad it's only destined for Asia. I like the Hybrid as I think it will have better take off with the electric motor assist.

Why didn't they use the petrol tank space?
Re: New Honda PCX Electric and Hybrid in 2018!
They'll probably have used that as well.you you wrote:Why didn't they use the petrol tank space?
Or if they haven't it could be for ease of access to detachable batteries to carry in to the home/place of work for charging.
Not everyone has outdoor charging facilities available.
Disappointing if the electric motor has a drive belt, i prefer the hub mount style.

Nice to see these pics, but sad to see storage space has either gone or dramatically reduced (hardly able to store anything now). Seems at least one reason people will buy other makes rather than these new designs, besides cost, etc.

Good looking Scooter Batteries are huge! Getting all up in your storage and radiator area but still very interesting design. No doubt we will see this sooner than later but for us in the states, first we have to embrace the gasoline scooter over our cars and trucks

Re: New Honda PCX Electric and Hybrid in 2018!
I know that the United States is not there biggest market, but it would be nice if we could actually order one of those two models. I like both, but I don't like the floating rear fender on the electric one. It just reminds me of a dirt bike, and who wants to bet that someone will try one out in the dirt.
Still, they both look nice. If we thought 100 mpg was good, I wonder what the hybrid one gets?

Cool. An electric and a hybrid version. I wonder what the ranges will be for them. No mention of that. Or if they will ever make it to the US.

I've seen similar type batteries in scooters while living in Taiwan. In fact, in Taipei, they have battery stations along the streets with tons of batteries. If your batteries are running low, you just pull over to one of these stations, take your batteries out by the handle...put them in the charging station and take two charged batteries and put them in your scooter. There are phone apps to help you locate stations with available batteries. Cool system.

Re: New Honda PCX Electric and Hybrid in 2018!
I see something in favor of Honda here that vastly reduces the risk of water fouling the Lithium Saffron batteries that Segway uses.
1. The batteries are NOT sling low where splash and submersion is likely as with Segway.
2. The Batteries are removable without tools and can be stored where temperature has less condensation potential.
Moisture is the premature killer of these batteries and the clause in the warranty you can't get around. And they're very, very expensive shelving many, many Segway's by costing 2000.00 to replace minimum. I'm going to guess this Honda set of L-Ions are more expensive than Segway's smaller set.
If I owned this PCX I would never ride it in the rain or spray wash it. But I already never do this so I'm a potential customer

I'm gonna wait for the technology to mature before jumping the bandwagon.

Re: New Honda PCX Electric and Hybrid in 2018!
I dunno, I respect people who want to go this way, but I can't see me w/o an engine. Besides, every time I take my PCX out, I swear it's the best thought-out bike for its intended purpose that I've ever rode on. Not saying it's perfect but .....I'm gonna wait for the technology to mature before jumping the bandwagon.

The hybrid technology of the new PCX is essentially the same one that was used in the first Honda Insight 17 years ago. I think it's matured enough and would consider purchasing such a scoot if available.alx123 wrote:I'm gonna wait for the technology to mature before jumping the bandwagon.

Re: New Honda PCX Electric and Hybrid in 2018!
Sorry, I was referring to the all-electric model. I am most concerned with the battery's capacity, longevity and cost of replacement. Things that will be sorted out in the near future I'm sure..Gil wrote:The hybrid technology of the new PCX is essentially the same one that was used in the first Honda Insight 17 years ago. Good point, my concern is with the batteries is the capacity/range. I'm thinking that it won't do more than 60 miles. But with extra packs, range could be extended I suppose.

Re: New Honda PCX Electric and Hybrid in 2018!
It does point to the PCX having some longevity as a model.
Re: New Honda PCX Electric and Hybrid in 2018!
They may offer a lease agreement on the batteries, so you wouldn't be faced with a one off cost of replacement.alx123 wrote:I am most concerned with the battery's capacity, longevity and cost of replacement.
The batteries on Zero motorcycles are warranted for five years and unlimited mileage, so no reason why Honda should be any different.
AFAIL Zero offer the only five year unlimited mileage warranty on any motorcycle component...
Try getting a new battery from Honda for your petrol PCX after the two year warranty is up...
