Rain riding

Post by davenowherejones »

It is getting cold and wet around here, Hope, BC, Canada. Has anyone put grip warmers on the Forza? I need a good pair of rain gloves???

Any rain riding tips?

How worn out do you let your rear tire go in the rain?

Have you ever had a person with a mop follow you around McDonalds?

And no, a motel is not an option, the dog wants out!

put on Datatool heated grips on my Forza last year..
points...1..under the Honda grips are ribs which need filed away to allow the Datatool grips to be fitted on ( I assume to allow any heated grips to be put on)...bit of a fankle but easily done.
2..Datatool grips are fairly chunky but I rather like the larger grip.
3..I wired them directly to the battery ( so required to extend the wiring) as they have a cut out built so that you dont drain the battery by forgetting to turn them off'.
4..They have a roll type control on the left side to set different temps...bit sticky to operate but it works well.
So all in all I find them good.

Re: gloves for riding in the rain - army surplus over-gloves (i.e. DPM Gore Tex Outer Mittens) are completely waterproof and the small size easily fits over large motorcycle gloves. £8 free delivery in the UK and you should be able to get similar things in the US.
I've held them under running taps on full blast and not only did no water get through, the outer surface was bone dry - water just did not stick to the surface. If they can cope with that they can cope with heavy rain. They are also good at stopping extra wind-chill.

Persistent heavy rain may be a tougher test than running them under a tap.

True, but they are made for that purpose (army gore tex) and reviews say the same - great for wet and cold as over-gloves and they have a longish 'sleeve' that goes over the end of the join of glove/jacket.

Hand warmers are for wimps.
The OEM Honda ones are crap, aftermarket ones like Oxford work much better.
Don't know if they're available where you are but Held Freezer are good winter gloves.

Be smooth, allow longer braking distance and just relax.

Replace once down to the wear bars same as always.
Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong

I might look at Oxfords. No Helds around here. I might try some chemical hand warmers. I am always smooth and I always relax with a death grip on the bars (Not). I am almost down to the wear bars again, I should just stay home some times. I should order a new tire so that I don't get as silly as last time.

Can't really not try them at £8 a pair. :D
