what rucksack which also fits under the seat?

Post by Cracksta »

Hi guys,

my current rucksack holds my work laptop, bit n bobs of cables and my work shoes.

Does anyone carry a rucksack or know of one which can also be stored in the underseat area?

will be a pain if i had the rucksack and had to give the missus a lift home, will be getting a topbox but thats going to hold the 2nd helmet most of the time. rucksack weight currently is over 3kg, approx 5-8kg

thanks

What rucksack will fit depends on what's inside it.
I carry a 20ish litre one for work and the seat squashes down easily enough but if the rucksack was rammed full it probably wouldn't.

Im pretty sure I tried to get my laptop (15.4") under the seat but it wouldnt fit, it does however lie flat in my 37litre topbox.

My 14" IBM Thinkpad fits nicely under the seat and can even squeeze my wet weather boots, tools and other gear in as well, though the seat bends like a banana and the idle stop switch wont work so idle stop function is disabled (unless I were to tape the seat microswitch!). USA folk dont get the idle stop so doesnt affect them!

yes, i have 2 helmets, my calberg vr2 seems a little tall so the seat touches the top and i have to force it shut, the shoei is slightly smaller but still stops the idling system.

Where is this switch, can i get to it without ripping anything?

still need to order my service manual

With seat lifted fully up the switch is black plastic between the 2 metal bolts attaching the seat to the bike. I added thick tape to where the seat touches the switch to help it to actuate.

Are you saying there is a stop engine switch on the seat???

I’m sure it’s hard to ride with the seat full open, but I seldom latch the seat when I ride. It’s a bit annoying that the seat on my bike requires a hefty smack with the heel of my hand to get it to latch, so most of the time I don’t bother. Only time it gets latched is when I’m out and about and have something of value (helmet or groceries or something) that needs to be secured.

Might not be on the US model as you lot can't be trusted with the idle stop system

LOL

does it even come in the US?

Ah, i'll have a look after, my 2 helmets seem to stop the idle system working, going to get a new flip helmet soon so guess it'll need to be slightly shorter.

The US doesn't get the idle stop system -- there were "safety concerns." We don't have to worry about the switch. :D

It'll be the same "safety concerns" which mean the US BV350 doesn't have ABS or traction control like wot it does in Europeland.

Seriously, am I the only one with a seat latch that requires a hearty thwack to get the seat to lock? Is it out of adjustment?

dont thwack it, they are all like that. Close gently then apply firm pressure and it should latch.

+1

also, if you have a helmet there already, you may need to push it harder.

I give mine a hardy THWACK every time. I should close gently then push, but the thwack is more fun

The fact that it's difficult to latch is A Good Thing.
Makes it harder to lock the key under the seat, but some folks have managed it...
