Great Afternoon with MikeP (Mike Pope) in Nanaimo, BC

Patty and I are more or less in the middle of our Vancouver Island adventure scooter trip (we of the picnic cooler saddle bags!), and we are back in Nanaimo today, MikeP's stomping grounds. Anyway, we hooked up with Mike, who is a heck of a nice guy, and his daughter Adele, shortly after Mike got off work. We got a wonderful look at Nanaimo most tourists never get to see! The best parts were the spectacular views of the City, Nanaimo Harbour, Newcastle Island and the other bays and islands, viewed from the City's high points, College Heights and Oakridge. We also saw Westwood Lake and Pipers Lagoon. Mike knows this city like that back of his hand, and we zoomed from one end to the other and all around on our scoots, which seem custom made for the roads we were on today! We finished up with a nice dinner at Ricky's. We are very glad we got to get to know Mike and spend this short time with him!

I would love to live up there. Right now Atlanta, GA is just plain hot. It isn't a lot of fun to ride in this stuff. It is like riding in a very large sponge. Our daughter lives in Mukilteo and says that the weather there is great right now. I try to imagine riding up there when I can't ride here...which is most of the time now. :-/

Nanaimo from Oakridge

Never been there and, actually, never even heard of it, but from what I can see of it on google images it looks like a wonderful place to visit on a scooter.

Nanaimo is a fairly substantial city, over 80,000, and just one of the more scenic places in the world! Actually, all of Vancouver Island is! There is a large freeway but also a small "old" road, Hwy 29A, that runs along the coast, which is just ideal for scooters!

Ouch! I said "29A" but it actually is 19A, for the factually inclined...BTW, we arrived home in Birch Bay today, it was a fabulous scoot, covering 564 miles, highly recommend it to anyone who can do it! Two things, Patty discovered she can scoot 70 miles / 2 hours per day and enjoy it, and she also discovered on the way home on I-5 that she has no problem doing 60 mph! A big thumbs up to my bride of 49 years!

I wish to thank Pat and Patty for a wonderful visit and the privilege of being their tour guide. Audel and I had a terrific ride with them, and a wounderful dinner. It was so nice to connect with like minded scooter enthusiasts.

Should any of you out there ever come to my neck of the woods, please look me up, I would be delighted to be your tour guide as well.

However I must caution you, during berry season we do have a problem with bears. Thankfully they wear reflective vest so they are easy to spot.

Yeh!! Ya'll met up and rode together! I bet it was fun! Thank you Pat for the photos. It Did Happen! and on lovely country roads on beautiful sunny blue sky days. Perfect!
