Bar risers and mirror extenders

Post by GeeGusKahn »

.
kept seeing my elbows in rear view mirrors and little else.
So,
added a set of bar risers - approximately 1 inch lift.
No cable or line problems.

Are there any standard honda mirrors that look similar but are a bit longer?

Mel, found those on line at Amazon.
Just searched under mirror extenders.
Not sure but I think around 20 USD.
.
Since you are in the overpopulated part of the world,
you might stop in at some of the bike shops around you.
A lot of third party parts like that for cruzers.
Both sides are 10mm right hand thread.
Also, I think Parts Unlimited carries a lot of this type of item.
A lot of big dealers and even smaller shops are Parts Unlimited dealers.
They have a web site.

I got those mirrors in a swap for something a while back.
Not really sure what they came off of.
Might even be third party no name.
.
The one on the left is larger and thicker stem along with better glass.
I might keep that one.
The one on the right is not so good. Mirror is not sharp and more vibration.
.
Check Parts Unlimited for after market mirrors. Lots of them out there.

Speaking of mirrors/mirror extenders (have some extenders on my bike), I find that one of my mirrors is constantly working loose, even before installing my extenders. I'm reluctant to use thread locker on it, does anyone have a suggestion? Lock washers, maybe? Vodoo? Swearing and spousal intervention haven't worked, either ;)

Hmmm....you could try fingernail polish on the threads. Also, I have some silicone tape that you can buy at hardware stores. It is used by plumbers, and by many mechanics. Look up stretch 'n Seal. Even Walmart has some.

the bars on the pcx are 7/8 ths. Any standard bar riser should work.
The bar risers come in varies heights. The ones in the picture are about 30 mm or just over an inch.
They come taller, shorter, and whats called 1 up - 1 back which is an offset riser that goes up an inch and back an inch. Very handy for those with shorter arms.
If you stick with no more than an inch and a half up, or 1 up 1 back, you should not have to reroute cables or brake lines.
.
I got those a long time ago so not sure but try TwistedThrottle.com,
MotorcycleSuperstore.com, or similar.

Thanks GeeGusKahn I really do need the mirror extenders myself. I will probably get the black ones. On the Amazon page there was even a video review from a PCX owner.

Nines - you do know that both stock mirrors are left hand thread along with the locking nut ???
.
The adapters between the handle bars and mirror stem convert the left hand tread to 10mm right hand tread.
So to tighten the mirrors with the locking nut you turn the nut lefty NOT righty to lock it down.
My original mirrors were both loose and it never occured to me that they would both have left hand thread.
So, I proceeded to gorilla tighten and or loosen and managed to shear off the mirror stem.
Then still not realizing what was afoot, I did the same thing to the other side - I mean sheared the mirror stem right off. :o
.
So, that is how I came to add the extenders and other mirrors.
.
So the whole mirror and adapter will unscrew from the handle bar as normal.
Then to separate mirror from adapter, turn it the wrong way - Right to loosen.
If that makes any sense :D

Thanks GeeGusKahn I did order the black set of extenders. Hubby went to put them on for me since I'm not supposed to be using my right arm. He didn't know that the mirrors were left handed threads. So he wasn't able to put them on for me yet. I even asked him are you sure that they aren't left handed threads and he say no because to take them they were normal. Then I read here that I was right. He is "mister over tighten" so there is not a chance in hell that I can do the one he messed with. Hopefully by the weekend he will have time to put them on for me. I can't wait they look awesome, plus the fact I might be able to see out of both mirrors at the same time.

.
If my picture comes out,
the mirror, item 24, and the opposite side mirror are both 10mm left hand threads.
Item 30, the locking nut, is left hand thread.
.
The adapter, item 27, is left hand thread on top, and right hand thread on bottom.
.
I have a 2013 PCX150 bought in US. I have no idea if this silliness runs in all PCXs or just some.
