What should I do about this rust?

Post by Carzah »

I thought I would give the bike a quick wash and noticed this rust. It's the first time I've looked under here since I got the bike last year. It's a 2019 PCX 125 with about 5,000 miles.

It's the only rust I can see other than a tiny bit on the exhaust. I'm pretty new to vehicle maintenance so I'm not sure how bad this is or how to treat it.

Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.

What Jge64 said. Nothing a little wire brush and rust prevention spray paint. Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer Aerosol Spray. Then paint it black.

You've found one of the few areas of the PCX which demands constant maintenance.
The black yoke and chrome stanchions need to be rubbed over with ACF50 at least once a week, daily in winter, to stop this corrosion forming.
If the stanchions corrode in the working area it can cause oil leaks through damage to the seals and bushes.
Four decades on two wheels has taught me nothing, all advice given is guaranteed to be wrong

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

I just got done using a wire brush and some sandpaper, then applied a coat of this stuff.

I have also ordered some acf-50 to cover the while bike in. Hopefully this will keep it at bay.

Thanks again. :)

Thanks for that tip, I've not heard of this ...... sounds like it's a WD-40 on steroids and it's also a lubricant where WD-40 is not.

Thanks
