occasional cutting out under open throttle, fuel starvation

Post by OldGuywhoTinkers »

I am experiencing occasional cutting out, like running out of fuel under wide open throttle.

Since my PCX is a 2013 model, what would I need to do to gain access to the fuel tank to clean it and replace any existing fuel filter on the scooter ? Thank You.

There isn't a separate fuel filter, just a strainer on the fuel pump and it doesn't require any maintenance.
What you are experiencing is most likely the rev limiter.

Maybe the injector has a bit of skunge it it? MY auto mechanic nephew swears by Techron, a fuel additive. I used it in my snowblower (admittedly a MUCH simpler engine), and it seemed to help. IT would be $7 gamble, and I don't believe it would hurt anything.
On my scoot, getting there is WAY more than half the fun!

+1. Does ‘t take much, put the remaining in your car or lawn mower or at a 2nd fillup on the PCX. Just mix % wise as recommended. Lucas makes a similar product- they work.

"I am experiencing occasional cutting out, like running out of fuel under wide open throttle."

When your PCX reaches the rev limiter it starts cutting out as a notice to you that it has reached the maximum you can expect from it. If it is a 2013 150cc that has not been modified, don't expect to reach 70 mph. It won't without some mods.

April 9 2019 I noticed it as I opened the throttle wide open over 50 mph. Since then I have been experimenting with wal-mart injector cleaner. I use pure gasoline 99% of the time.

Changing the spark plug would be my first move.

I have only had that happen to me twice. The first time, it was the valves that needed adjusting. The second time it was the rev limiter. I solved both problems and it hasn't complained since then.
I would say check the obvious first. How many miles on your bike?
