time stops for no member...

Post by homie »

'Precious' the first LED PCX (2015) is now 4 years old can you believe it... where did time go. Well, it went by way of those old clap traps GN and youyou still ride

New members asking questions about horses of a different color... key-less ignition, hybrids, full blown electric bikes. I admit I've not kept up with the new features regarding PCX. Those with older models keep me busy with questions in my channel but I hold new members responsible for knowing everything next Gen PCX in here when we need it. Trusting you noobs to build the archives for us with clear and easily understandable threads and tutorials. No eye cream, hair product or hard on assistance please. Learn the new machines, take them apart, service them and make good notes. Upload your experiences, discoveries and carry the torch until Honda stops making these wonderful little bikes.

Hard winter here in the Windy City, no complaints but my knowledge has aged with Precious... its expiring with every new feature.

I am finding the same thing. Eventually there won't be much news that will be pertinent to us old timers. Then it might be time to move on or upgrade to a newer bike. Since I love mine just the way it is, I won't be upgrading.

I hate to upgrade anything that has given good service and suits my needs. Unfortunately, as of this morning, my wife's pocket calculator (which I have been using for 25 years) finally died this morning. Batteries never changed in the 39 years that we've owned it.

I'm still using my abacus a bit (helps grade school kids visualize addition and subtraction). A slide rule lives in the truck door to calculate mileage.

But I'm not old...

Seriously, though, and back to Homie's point. Folks with the newer models can make great contributions by documenting their mods or repairs. My first question was about how to get the darn button out so I could add a battery tender lead, and this help from this forum saved time (and probably the little pin). Will I ever do some of the more advanced things? Probably not, but if the spirit moves me, I can.

Even if its been done before, if you have a new model, let us all take a peek.

I have a calculator that I purchased for college in 1980. It still works fine. I have changed the batteries only once. I bought it for my math classes (algebra all the way thru cal 3).

I wore a tie to church last week that I bought in Paris, 1964. I just kept wearing it to every funeral and wedding - knowing skinny ties would come back around. I still have the hand tailored Harris Tweed jacket....but it seems to have shrunk. Recently found ticket stub to Peter, Paul & Mary concert, circa 1965 I think, and some gum.

Oh, wait. That was your jacket?? Sorry. No wonder our stories are so similar. I promise to return your jacket when I am done with it...just like I promised to return it in 1965, when I went to that concert in it.

No need to change mine as it still does what it did.

All the new gizmos are in cars. Useful (not terrifying) but not worth changing the bikes for.

It would be like part exing a puppy.

Most of the new features are good but still not keen on the new keyless ignition, the more I hear about it on the FB PCX and Forza groups the more I do not like it. Ok, so you can keep the key in your jacket or whatever and get near the bike and it starts by just pressing a button, big deal - it's the niggles that come along that bother me such fob dying (this has happened to some), losing the fob (although they now provide two with some bikes not just one as in the start) and it costs £200 to sort via a dealer if you lose or break it (has to be done by them due to programming and huge dealer/Honda mark-up).
I'd rather have the alarm system but Honda for some reason do not provide that in the UK like they do in Thailand or other countries.

Not strictly scooter conversation, but we recently had to rent a car while ours was being worked on. We ended up with a 2019 Cadillac XTS....not what we would have preferred but it was what they had at the time.

That car was keyless, with just a fob for remote starting, unlocking doors and trunk, and other things. We had a time getting use to the big dash screen that ran everything, even opening the glove box. (It also had a backup camera and folded down the side mirrors when it was in reverse!) YES, it also had the lane warnings and all sorts of inside "conveniences" that were confusing at first.

We had to put gas in it before returning the car. We sat there at the pump for 10 minutes, reading the owners manual, before we could figure out how to get the gas cover open. It turned out that it had no buttons or levers. With the ignition on, you pushed the middle of the cover and it sprang open. Then there was no gas cap, just a membrane over the mouth. We had to read up on that too. When you stick the gas nozzle in you have to make sure it goes in up to that spring on the nozzle. Otherwise it won't be considered secure by the car.

That says a lot about how complex things are getting that are suppose to make things easier for us. I was really glad when we got our Hyundai Sonata back!

Any repairs needed on that 2019 Cadillac because of its computerized systems and conveniences will be in mostlikely the 1000.00 plus range to fix . Once the warranty expires get rid of that old clap trap.

It's crazy indeed. Why text when you can just talk? Why deal with some manufacturer's gadget go round process just to get on with life? Why complicate things and create more potential failure? Why? Why? Why?

Perhaps because there is profit in loss and failure and not enough in success. What appears to be progress could actually be an illusion. You've got to get mad . . .!!!
