Custom Seat 7 disappointment

I ordered the Custom 7 Seat thinking it will be more comfortable. But unfortunately it isn't. With the original seat, the ergonomics of the seat forced me too far forward. The Custom 7 seat looked flatter, and others on the forum said it would solve my issue. I put it on this weekend with great hope, but sadly there is a bump exactly where my butt wants to seat. I had to put the original seat back on again. Because with the original seat I can at least sit on the passenger portion of the seat. There is no passenger portion on the Custom Seat 7 to speak of, and if I try to sit back further from where the bump is, it ends up being too far away for to drive safely. I wrote Biker Bitz to ask what their return policy is. If they don't have a return policy I will see if someone here has a better seat recommendation.

Well you're always going to have an issue with any seat unless its modified because of the frame rails, bodywork, and luggage bin. They curve upwards right where the bump is, so you're limited somewhat on what shape the seat will be. The only real solution I've seen is building up the front portion so as to make flatter the entire seat. The custom seats retain more or less the same profile as the original as they have to to fit the scooter properly. I got around this by fitting adjustable handlebars with a longer reach forward and lower than the stockers (I had to modify those too to get a worthwhile result, the PCX cockpit is on the small size for anyone over say 5'10") That's my take.

What some members have done is purchase a gel seat cushion of some sort in order to give them the extra padding needed in the area where the curve is from the frame, rails, and back end of the storage bin. The PCX was designed and built in Asia, where people are a bit smaller in stature than those of us of European decent.

I am 6'1 with a 31 inseam and have no problem with the system 7. It pushes me back just enough. I would say if you still have a problem after trying the system 7, you're going to take it into a local saddlemaker/upholsterer, and have them custom fit foam. Do this on the system 7, save your stock seat for when you sell.

Thanks, I never thought of modifying the handlebars. I can sit on the passenger portion of the original seat, and my feet touch the ground easily. i just feel kind of stupid sitting way back there. But if the handlebars were modified it might be helpful. Yes, you are right about the frame being the key issue with the seat. People on the forum were telling me it's the original seat, get the Custom 7. I should have known better considering your point of view. I might trade it in on something else. I am tired of the aggravation. The frame work that decides the seat shape is just too small for my long legs. Trade-in value is $1800 according to KBB. It's a 2017 with 1600 miles. I dumped it and it has some paint damage along the bottom, sadly.

Thanks, I might go the seat modification route, too. I talked to two people last year, and I didn't feel comfortable with either one of them. They didn't seem to give my seat much thought, they were just like, yeah, no problem, I can do it for you. I want to be coddled. lol.

Growl. Too bad about the 7. I recall that you have been on a quest for quite some time. I had a local guy rework my forza seat, but it was many clams. I use the PCX for half-hour rides at most, so I can put up with the stock setup (hump and all!).

It may be worth it to you to find a seat specialist that you can work with. You now have a second seat pan, and it will likely cost a metric fortune to send it back. Mess with the bars, certainly - a no cost experiment, but maybe there is someone within fifty miles or so that does Harley seats, and would be willing to take your money.

Thanks, I am also 6'1, but my inseam is 36. There is a subtle bump up on the seat (or rise, or whatever you want to call it), and that rise is just where my butt wants to be. It's crazy. I talked to Biker Bitz. They will refund my money, but I will have to pay for shipping costs, plus customs. I will definitely modify the after-market and not the original. Or I may sell it. I would imagine I could get $60 for it pretty easily considering it would cost anybody else $150 to get the same seat from Thailand. Assuming someone is in the market for a Custom 7.

Tough decision indeed. The PCX checks so many of the right boxes but the two that have always been a thorn in the consumer's side have been the lack of universal appeal with the seat and the long journey to adjust the valves and after reassembly of the plastic be free once again to return to the recliner/remote/TV/beverage for refreshment.

One of the sites has a direct feed to that shop, and you can ask for modifications to a particular seat model and they will get it done for you. I bought my seat through them and am very happy with it. As you will see from their website, they know that some of their customers are the taller type. I had him add more foam to mine. Yes I bought it last summer. I have tried two after-market seats. It was a mistake buying this machine. I should have bought another Genuine Buddy. I was completely happy and satisfied with my Buddy. I sold it when I moved. I want to take it back to Honda or see if I can find a short person to sell it to.
