Hi Everyone!
I’m new to motorcycling. 56 years old and taken early retirement, lucky me!!
So I’ve decided to buy a PCX in white. I’m in the UK so doing all the necessary training before I get one. As I’m new to the game any tips would be very much appreciated. I’m very excited and raring to go but I know I need to proceed with caution. I have bought all the gear as I am very safety conscious, so away you go if you have any info for me.
All the very best,
Pete

Hi Bluemoon,
Congratulations on your purchase and the decision to go cautiously.
I am 59 and this spring I bought a Forza 125 after more then 30 years off the bike. I commute to work daily ever since and I enjoy it all the time. Just like you, I've got the protective gear. The latest thing is a back protection armour http://www.tucanourbano.com/eu/back-arm ... 14428.html which I will get for my upcoming birthday and I will use it instead of the current kidney belt.
My main advice is in my signature below.
I wish you many enjoyable rides

Congratulations on your new PCX!
You'll find the fuel economy is awesome and the utility value and fun factor are an added plus. When I had mine I was consistently getting over 100 MPG.
My advice would be to approach blind turns or rolling hills with caution. What you can't see means you just don't know what is lying in your path. So try to be aware of escape routes as you ride just in case the unthinkable happens or an unexpected object is in your way. Someone could have been trying to pass someone just the other side of a hill and pops over the horizon into your path. Or, as you lean into a bend there is a cow sitting in the road. Don't laugh. . .it can happen.
Leave a little room for pedestrians or possible bicyclists or a broken down vehicle along the shoulder of the road on blind turns. Also I can't stress enough to be ready to compensate for anyone oncoming who may be driving over the median line edging into your lane as well.
We live in the age of texting and distracted driving so in essence just expect the unexpected on a regular basis.

One important thing I've learnt in my new driving era - take special care of other bikers riding behind you, in front of you and parallel in the same or the neighboring lane. A lot of young bikers want to compete so let them win. When splitting the lane on approach to the traffic light, let the biker in front of you stay in front.
I was surprised to see a number of car drivers wanting to race me from the first row on the traffic light. I just let them pass me and regain my position at the next light.
And the funniest thing, the most aggressive are the drivers of SMARTs. Some of them would purposely block me from passing other cars in the jammed street. Opposite to that, a lot of drivers of the larger cars make an effort to make enough passing space.

im new to riding to i started in june the pcx is just about the easiest bike to have to pass your motorcycle test it turns really good i would of never passed on a bigger bike. Hopeully where you live there is no restriction if you take your test on an automatic.

Brand new tyres are a slipping hazard. It's not uncommon to come off as riders proudly leave the forecourt for the very first time. Your dealer will probably warn you as-well.
Get some good quality brushes to wash away the salt and dirt out of the springs, front brake, upper front forks, stands and engine as the winter sets in. Some bicycle sets can work well.
Wear ear protection from the wind.

yay, congrats and enjoy your new PCX.
My only advice is to ease up on the throttle and find an empty parking space/lot to get to know your new scoot much better. Learn how to turn safely, try braking in diff scenario, counter steering, etc. Good luck
Is that new ABS version?
