Ever since the last time I got broadsided in my truck by a full size buck back in the '80s I've been putting deer whistles on every vehicle I've owned. Never been a problem since. They do look at me while chomping on greenery along the road shoulders acknowledging my presence but fortunately I've not had to contend with another to this day.
The "rut" season is quickly approaching and I find myself repeating the mantra "Where there's one there's more".
Whether or not deer whistles actually work is up for debate but for less than $10 a set I consider it more reliable than throwing money into a slot machine.

From my sister-in-law, who lives in rural Pennsylvania, "Sometimes they work, and sometimes they don't."
She and her husband have had 4 totalled vehicles thanks to those dumb deer, especially during a certain part of the year when the sex drive is stronger than their common sense drive. Be careful during that time.

For nearly 30 years I've watched the county garage repairing sheriff cars after night time deer strikes.
All 3 of the mechanics just laugh at those crushed deer whistles. The joke is that they signal miles ahead to let the deer know to come the road .....and deer heaven.

Odds are if we are driving faster than 30 MPH the deer can't adjust and adapt to alter course in time to avoid a nasty headache anyways. But for that one in a million who may avert mutual disaster it could be worth the $10 . . . maybe. . . and a little help from St. Christopher.
Marines . . . wading in . . . always up to the challenge. Ooorah!
