Rust on new parts

There's some surface rust on my SH300, which I bought new in April and have done 1800 miles on. It's only on the bottom of the shocks.

Any views?

Apply acf-50 after cleaning as much as possible.
Some scoots come from humid climates, then sit at dealers for a time.
Where is the SH300 built?
In any event, a Honda shouldn't be rusting yet.
(I did have a Japanese made Burgman that had never been parked outdoors, but sat 3 yrs on dealer floor - with small bits of rust at every weld spot on the frame. But not a spot on same age Honda CB500X )

I'm not.
I've seen brand new Hondas come out the crate with corrosion on them.
Read ye the owners manual, it usually mentions to use protective lotions and potions.
Riding on UK roads unprotected in winter... corrosion is guaranteed.

I didn't have any issues with the Vision, Forza or CB500X that I've owned, and I did considerably more miles on the last two, year-round.

When I replaced my factory shocks with some good aftermarket-parts I noticed some rust on the bottom of the original shocks. It happens.
Also, since Honda doesn't really MAKE anything in Europe, your bike was assembled in Italy. Who knows how long the parts were in warehouse storage before they were used? There are many parts that are interchangeable with various Honda-built bikes, so those shocks could have been manufactured many years ago.
Just clean them up and apply a protective coating on it. It will be fine.

its the chrome part of the shocks that are at risk of rust. If you polish them with autosol, then use some acf-50 on them the rust should keep at bay.
