When you take off the Engine Oil Strainer Screen off after draining the oil and replacing the engine oil drain bolt. Make sure to clean the screen filter with a "Braking Contact Cleaner" And not with WD-40 followed by lots of water, Water will leave condensation in that fine screen and will not try out completely, and will do harm your scooter. Water & Oil do not mix!! Braking Contact Cleaner will dry out real quick and you'll be ready to go...

What do you suppose that the crankcase breather is for?
But I agree, water is no good for washing the mesh strainer.

I clean mine in a paraffin (kerosine) parts washer. It mixes with the oil in the strainer and cleans it nicely.
Then I thoroughly blast it dry with an air line before refitting.
As you say, water and engine parts don't mix.

i clean mine with WD-40 and water, and then blow out the filter with compressed air, or let it sit out for 30 min. 10,000 miles later, I have had no issues at all, and every oil change has had the used oil look clean. Its such a TINY minute amount of water, and in almost an entire quart of oil, I dont think it would do a thing at all.

you could also just dip the filter in the used oil after cleaning with water, if its something one would worry about.

Is the oil filter to change with a new one or just to clean?
Is it made from metal?

You just clean the screen -- no need to replace.

Also does not seem to have any fuel filter like cars have :-)

How about using a bit of fresh gasoline for cleaning, then a quick rinse and dry....is that okay? Growing up I saw gasoline used a lot for various cleaning jobs (even to drown bugs from rosebushes). Or...as an example, a can of Repsol Moto Brake and Parts Contact cleaner used for this?

Brake cleaner is probably the easiest, cleans it right off and dries with no residue. Cheap too! Just don't breath in the fumes.

It does have a "foot" type gauze filter at the base of the submerged fuel pump


Right way to do it tbh. You could fit a replaceable in line filter too if you wanted

The can usually states something to the likes of 'use only in a well-ventilated area'. In this case, I'm inclined to act exactly as stated on the can!
