This has been beat to death I am sure , but for the newbies this is quick way to check engine oil before you head out on a cold engine. Of course the book will tell you to run the motor for a few minutes then let it sit for another few then set it on the center stand and check the fill cap dip stick. My method is a little different if just want a quick check.. The measurement wont vary that much between methods FYI.This method takes less than a minute and works well for me but as always consult your Honda service manual for their recommended procedure.Note: make sure the scooter is reasonably level fore and aft or avoid hills or inclines when checking.

Good video! Thanks! 8)

When I get the scoot I'm changing out the oil at 500 miles. . .a bit early. . .but want to get the grit out sooner.

Thinking of using a Castrol product. Will check the specs and everything IAW the manual before I buy a few quarts. Been using Castrol for years and never had an oil related problem. Will give other brands consideration based on what I find the consensus to be. Once I start with one brand and spec I stay with it. :geek:

Thats a good idea to change at 500 miles. Its not the oil but the break in contaminants you need to get out. Years ago, oil manufacturers made somewhat of a difference. That is Gulf produced grade oils versus Pennsylvania grade oils. They had different properties such as wax and sulfur content and other attributes which made a difference. You have heard of Quaker State and Gulf oil. Today oil is highly refined and has to meet various testing criteria. Manufacturers have to meet these requirements regardless of name on the label. In Fact Warren Oil distributors makes synthetic oils all the same but changes the packaging and the name on the label to suit. Sooo any good brand that meets the criteria specified will suffice. Actually the diesel oils are the best lubricators.Sooo rest assured you will never have an oil related problem based on manufacturer..Keep it clean and keep it full and its forever.
