A couple of you have mentioned in replies to some of my posts to consider "armored gear" in the way of a jacket etc. I have Googled that term and found a couple of sites. There seems to be different levels of safety to the jackets offered, as well as a price range going from $279 to a $600 range. So without causing a war over attire, could I ask you for some examples of your suggestions and perhaps a website for ordering. Since I'm located in Michigan, it would be great if your source is also located somewhere in the U.S.

This is what I would get if I were to buy another jacket:

I found a winter deal on a REv'it three season jacket, much like http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/revi ... o-2-jacket .
It was a lot of money at the time, but I have come to love the jacket. Without the liner, the airflow in summer is great, and with the liner, I'm good to around 40F. Add a polarfleece vest and I can go down to about 30 F for a 20-30 minute ride (along with a neck gaiter).

Another very good place to shop is Aerostitch. I have to look reasonable at work, so I snagged two pairs of khakis: http://www.aerostich.com/clothing/cloth ... kis-1.html along with one pair of pads. Yes, I'm annoyingly armoured, but it isn't that bad, and I don't heal as quickly as I used to.
